Kaled remembers seeing such a beast before in a book. It was called a glabrezu, a powerful demon often seen in the company of other demons, such as succubi. They tempt mortals with power, wealth, or fame, in exchange for their mortal soul, and they have the power to grant such a wish. Once certain conditions are met, such as a certain number of years elapsing, the demon, or one of its companions, returns to claim the soul it was promised.
Geeez. Are we going after the mayor or stopping orcs? I believe we cannot do both. I am indebted to you all. I will help if I can to stop others from meeting their gods.
Kaled shares his observations with the others.
"So Anduin can you tell us about this item you found? And from the other you sought at our last meeting. It seems we are on the same side this time, but i think we need some explanation according our previous encounter with you and that gargoyle thing."
As for your question, i vote for the orcs. First, this is Harvey's interest too i think, second entering the Abyss sounds as a bad idea. And maybe the two case has some connection too.
"Harvey, we don't want to question your claim on that sword, but can you fulfill our curiosity by sharing it's property with us?"
“It’s a Sylvan Scimitar,” Harvey answers. “And while technically anyone can wield it who is trained as a fighter, only a druid can draw out its true potential. Essentially, it makes our magic stronger.”
1 scimitar: Sylvan Scimitar (Harvey) 1 long sword: Talking sword (@Anduin ) 2 daggers: dagger +1 (sell), Returning Dagger +2 (Guston) 1 rapier: Dancing Rapier +2 (Guston) 1 long bow: Shocking Burst Long Bow +2 (Emeril or Kaled or sell) 2 wands: Wand of Web (Ignatius), Wand of Monster Summoning (Ignatius) 2 rings: Force Shield ring (Ignatius), Ring of Jumping (Guston or Vaga)
1 wand: Wand of Turnip Summoning (@Anduin ) 4 potions of healing (Ignatius*, ???) 1 gray bag: Bag of Tricks (Vaga)
1 necklace made of golden beads (sell if not magical) 3,200 gp
My suggestion with italics.
Emeril is silent lately. Is she still around?
Kaled examines the bed thoroughly, searching for any hidden thing.
The time for the long answer to your question is not here or now Kaled. Thank you for taking an interest by the way... The short answer is that with the other two items, the ring and the belt, both with exceptional transformation magic imbued within them, it is possible, when used in conjunction with an astral projectional chair, you can remove the biggest setback faced by all mortals. It disunites your soul from the gods. So upon death your soul instead of transferring to the fugue plane, to be then carried onwards onto your chosen gods plain, transfers to the chair.
*Anduin starts giggling and waving his hands at his face.*
... This is the best bit... The best bit is the the chair uses the connection between your soul and your body to send regenerative and healing spells back to your body. Yaay!
*Anduin begins talking to himself.*
Now we do know the capacity of the chair to hold souls has no upper limit... The biggest factor is actually the time taken casting the spell and transferring the soul. Some kind of queue system. However people made to suffer by the gods, like Guston, should be able to go first to end their gods spiteful controlling influence sooner. Yes...
She’s keeping watch in the tunnel. She hasn’t gone inside the room with you.
Kaled: Spot check: 18-1=17
Kaled finds an old piece of parchment hidden beneath the mattress of the bed. It appears to be a map with a line drawn between the town of Callus and a distant location to the north. The words Throne of the Undying are also written on the corner of the map.
Kaled is grossed about what Anduin is explaining. He doesn't show this to the gnome however, but look at the other members of the group warily, because he knows they may are not as tolerant as he.
"So what is that you seek, invincibility? Or you have some argument with the gods?"
“Oh, yeah, that’s right pal!” the sword says excitedly. “Freedom awaits you all! Just make sure you know the command phrase first. Don’t worry, I have you covered there. It’s-“
The sword suddenly vanishes before everyone’s eyes.
"Hey, what was that?" While the others are occupied with the vanished sword, Kaled places the map carefully in one of his inside pocket for later examination.
No... No. NO. NO! NO! NO! NO! The sword! Where did it go!
*Anduin falls to the ground and starts hitting the floor with his fists in a tamper tantrum.*
Raaaar! WE NEED THE SWORD!
*Anduin rises and points his finger at Kaled. His, mouth foams spittal and his voice echoes inside the chamber as it takes on a guttural tone, that is frightful to behold, magic begins to spark around him as the weave of magic suddenly warps uncontrollably.*
I, THIS GNOME, MY SOUL, WILL NEVER BE A SLAVE TO KNOW ONE. I WILL NEVER ENSLAVE MYSELF TO ONE GOD FOR ALL ETERNITY, TRAPPED ON THERE PLAIN OF EXISTANCE, BOUND TO THERE RULES FOR ALL TIME! NEVER AGAIN! NEVER!!!
*Anduin's arms fall limp to his side.*
I would save the godless or those that realise they made the wrong choice... Give a choice to those that did not have one before, because Tymora did not favour them...
*Anduin spits.*
I would save those that the gods had cursed!
And... How dare they!
*Anduin claws at the sky above him.*
These gods that think they are better than us. Most are mere mortals that rose above the rest, I'm a better wizard than Azuth ever was... If I wanted to become a god I could challenge them and focus on spells to destroy them, to replace them . I reject them. I wish to be loved, but not worshipped. I am not that arrogant.
*Anduin calms slightly and begins to breathe normally.*
But you are right. In the wrong hands the items and the throne would make a mortal indestructible.
*Anduin's eyes suddenly widen.*
I suppose a gifted individual with the reasons to do so could use the conduit between themselves and the chair to suck up, the lifeforce of others and the land itself to empower themselves and... and...
Please note this is all Anduin's short summary interpretation of "The research" provided by Nimran if you think I am DMing a storyline.
*A portal opens up in front of Anduin. Anduin looks at Kaled, a look of desperation and a loss of hope in his eyes*
Fight the Orcs. Enter the Abyss. Dying a hero will be a far better end than having your soul power the throne of undeath. This is my doing, I must fix it. I must secure the other items before... Before...
*Anduin dives through the portal. It remains tantalisingly open but must surely close soon after.*
Kaled grits his teeth, but fights the urge to jump after Anduin, and into another unknown situation with that. He hopes that the map he found recently would help them to find the gnome if they want.
"Well i still vote to go after the orcs. Let me know if anyone has a better understanding of what happened here than i. Also we should inform Emeril what we found."
I'm bored at work. Started a rough sketch of Vaga the Unbroken, monk of the Order of the Sharp Teeth. His body littered with tat's and his trusty rope wrapped around his waist and his might bracers on his wrists. He's got a new friend as well; a small furry rat! Though he apparently only stays for 10 minutes at a time, heh.
"Let's do like you say, Kaled." Vaga says and agrees. "Let's head out of here then and back out again. If I understand correctly what Harvey said, there's nothing more here for us now."
@Nimran , as Anduin is ranting and raving, and before he steps through the portal, Guston looks for the ring they had fought over earlier and, if it is there, will try to slip it off his finger if possible.
I agree with @lolien ‘s proposal for item division, but I think the ring of jumping should go to Vaga. He will have much more use for it.
I don't even know what a ring of jumping does, even though ofc the item name is obvious. Does it just propel me ie 30 feet or is it more like a ring that adds +3 to "athletics" or "jumping" skills?
Bah! Boring monks and fighters... Aren't you suppose to help the frail wizard?
haha, can you blame us? Your gnome haven't really been all that open about what he wants nor is he very friendly. Except the hug though, that was special

“No, we didn’t find the sorceress,” says Guston as a giant boil spews forth puss all over Emeril’s face and blouse. “Sorry... can’t control it...
“But we did find some of her treasure and some clues as to her whereabouts.
“Now, however, we have no mayor... his soul has been imprisoned in a dagger, and his body taken away by a gnomish mummy. So... we’re at square one, sort of...”
“I might worry that you’re being impersonated by a gargoyle changeling named Nate right now, but I think that gargoyle thing works for the mummy gnome, so it’s not like we’re telling you anything he doesn’t know already...”

“For now, we need to focus on the matter at hand,” Emeril says. “We have an orc force to deal with.” She starts heading back up.
