“Tell me about it,” Miranda says. “When we get back to Callus, I’ll talk to Roan about our little problem. He’ll make sure we don’t do business with them again.” As she finishes speaking, she gives Fiora a long look, then says “You know, we could use some able-bodied young blood in our ranks. As a founding member, I have the authority to recruit new members. So, what do you think? The invitation extends to all of you, of course. It would be decent pay and free lodging in exchange for your help and support when we need it. You get a bonus for doing a job well, and you get to make this place a little bit better for everyone. I’ll be sure Roan doesn’t send you on a wyvern hunt for your first official mission with us.” She smiles warmly as she says this.
"I'm sure some of the others will appreciate the offer, but I have my own destiny to fullfill." *Fiora tries really hard to look deep and thoughtful* "Hey! We've been talking long enough to practically be friends! What's your favorite colorfoodanimal? I like purpleducksanddogs personally." *Fiora is talking increasingly quickly, one fears she may never stop on her own*
Unless MIranda finds an excuse to excuse herself, I think its safe to assume Fiora wrangles her into neverending small talk. Gives everyone else time to join in and get their own conversations in.
Thanks for the spells list, @Nimran! I can now get an idea of what will be balanced and what not. (My "proper DnD" game mechanics knowledge is mostly limited to the IE games, so I didn't have an idea about the right balance of "utility-type" spells. This is actually the reason why I was waiting.)
So I'll only be using Mage Hand. Thanks for making the clarification.
Edit: By the way, you said "personal" ability, right? Do you mean I can take something like that? If so, can you suggest something suitable? How about Levitation?
Also note that I didn't take any familiar (I won't be taking any either). Maybe a personal ability to replace that?
By the way, have the other characters not noticed me yet? Nobody seems to react to the mud and water that I splashed on them.
And can you give a brief summary of what is going on? Or maybe someone of the playing characters can tell me something about it?
@Rik_Kirtaniya no problem! Yeah, the IE games don’t really implement utility spells very well. Combat spells were always the main focus.
I’d say sure, Levitation is fine as a personal ability. The main focus is to have fun, so I don’t mind bending the rules a little.
The NPCs are so downtrodden, they just took it in stride lol. In truth, I was going to work, so I ended up missing that detail.
So basically, the party was hired to recover a lost caravan by Roan, a merchant lord in the town called Callus. It contains materials to build a new wall to keep out threats. The party had rescued the caravan, and the workers tried to cause problems with them because they foiled the workers’ plans. The party doesn’t actually know what their plan was, but they know it wasn’t good. That’s where we are now.
Vaga has been standing awkwardly close to Fi and Miranda while they were talking, acting casual as if he was included in their conversation but probably only managing to make them feel uncomfortable.
A splash of mud make him turn around and notice someone threw a rock into a nearby puddle. The muddy water splashing up on his clothes bother him ever so slightly 'cause even if he is not a vain man, he likes his few items neat; the clothes, the beard, the rope girdle.
Vaga looks in the direction he thinks the stone came from. He tries to see who or what is there.
Vaga immediately sees the boylike figure standing to the side.
Also, unless Ignatius is being sneaky, you don’t really need a Perception check. It’s mainly for details and features that would normally be hidden from you. If Ignatius is just standing there, you can definitely see him no matter what.
After spending the better part of the day getting platforms built, the party manages to get the horses back on the road. With some heavy lifting, the wagons are also put back on their wheels, and soon after, the materials are stashed in the wagons, and the horses are hitched to them. Miranda then has the workers sit with the materials in the back, then tells Nate to take the reins of the second wagon and follow behind the lead wagon closely. She takes up the reins of the first wagon and looks to the party.
“We’re going to need someone to watch Nate and the workers in case they try something,” she says. “I’ll leave that decision to you. I can’t wait to get back, and I won’t tolerate any more distractions.” She turns her attention to the road ahead.
Vaga talked to the unusual boy and introduced him to the rest of the crew, as well as, gave him the background to their actions and tasks. For some weird reason, the boy had a way of making him tell him everything. Vaga never lied and was always open and transparent, so what harm could it do to talk to this boy? He thought to himself. The odd kid felt muhc more mature than his puerile looks.
Vaga worked hard during the day, helping to build the platforms and all the heavy lifting. He loved to push his half-broken body to its max, working long hours with no rest, food or drink. He almost passed out at times due to his self-martyrdom, but was convinced to take a rest at one point which he begrudgingly accepted. He worked without his shirt or tunic on and his fresh wounds from last night's flagellation slowly stopped bleeding and dried up during the day. He paid no heed to mutterings about his appearance and instead took pride in what he could force his body to endure through sheer force of will. "Mind over body, lads! Mind over body." he chuckled and told the workers whenever they seemed to need a rest or sit down for a while.
"I can sit in the back of the second wagon together with the workers." Vaga said in response to Miranda's suggestion/question. "I am sure these fellas will not cause any problems. We've shed sweat together for a full day and I believe they are honest and true to our joint tasks!". With this said, Vaga climbed up the back of the second wagon and sat down best he could among the lumber.
Ignatius sits at the posterior end of the first wagon, resting his back against its side wall, so that on his right side, he could get a view of whatever lay in front of the caravan's way, and on his left, keep an eye on the second wagon, just in case he gets hints of the occurrence of any undesirable activity. He sits in his usual calm and nonchalant way, eyes half-shut, yet ever observant, ever vigilant...
Guston works as hard as he tends to do under normal circumstances. Considering himself more of a “supervisory” role than a “labor” role in the past, this is still quite a bit of a change for him. So he’s not as much of a contributor as others may have hoped, especially considering it was his idea. He ends up getting on the way a lot. And his rash breaks out even more than usual as it appears to be agitated either by the heavy labor or possibly by his reluctance.
Kaled takes his part from the work, he's like the physical labour actually, he works in silence, can order his thoughts while making the mechanic movements. He don't want to show off for anyone however, and does not bother with the working moral of others either.
He can sense the odd magical aura around Ignatius and keeps a distance from the odd behaving boy. Kaled has yet to decide if he like or even trust him.
Sorry for my absence. My last two days were crowded a bit, including a full-day class trip with my daughter yesterday.
Maybe we can proceed a bit if you all add that you sit up on the wagons so @nimran can push the story there? As it is now, two of us, myself Vaga and @Rik_Kirtaniya Ignatius is sitting on the wagons waiting for @ThacoBell Fiona, @mashedtaters Guston and @lolien Kaled.
edit; sorry if that sounded commanding, 'twas not the intention.
@ThacoBell can tell us what Fiora is doing when he visits.
By the way, which wagon is everyone sitting in? I know where Vaga and Ignatius are, but no one else. It might be important for me to know.
And so the caravan is finally on its way south to Callus. As the wagons start moving, Miranda lets out a sigh of relief. The ride is a bit bumpy, and Vaga and the workers occasionally need to grab the materials to keep them from falling out when it gets particularly rough. Nate doesn’t seem accustomed to driving a wagon on any road, let alone one as rough as this one.
Miranda, on the other hand, has more control over her wagon, and the materials inside do not shake or bounce around as much. Ignatius is able to keep an eye on things as a result.
Ignatius: Perception check: 2+4=6
He doesn’t see much of anything, except for the wagons and the road. The workers in the other wagon are too busy keeping the materials inside to try any funny business, and Nate has his hands full just keeping up with the leading wagon. The road ahead is long and devoid of any obstacles as far as he can see. Throughout the rest of the day, the wagons move along, until night eventually falls, and Miranda stops and tells everyone to make camp for the night.
@lolien Welcome back! I figured you were busy, so I didn’t want to get too far ahead.
By the way, did anyone pick up the unidentified belt in the tent?
Guston is sitting in the back of the wagon that Miranda is driving, as it appears to be the better handled. And less bumpy. Just as @lolien suspected, he secreted the belt away and is now examining it, inconspicuously trying to figure out what it does.
I struck up the neverending conversation with Miranda so people can come in and we can move on when they are ready. If in doubt, assume Fiora is either trying to make new friends or helping someone.

Eager to see what happens now. Let's see how the others react to the muddy water.

And night such as this may be better together."
