I can't even jump to a conclusion whether there's an actual link there or not, I just think it's interesting that they'd put WOTC licensed art in their corporate spin documentary . the obvious answer is that Larian is a bunch of D&D nerds, which should be extremely apparent
If I would be the head of Wotc, I would invest money in Baldur's gate, Planescape game (not necessarily a sequels) , Spelljammer and one place for Forgotten realms never seen before.
Sure, I mean BG was just one part of Forgotten realms world. Interesting characters and narrative was reason it felt alive. One could do this in another setting.

What I wouldn't give for a Spelljammer game. There could not be a better setting for a high level party except maybe Planescape. So much to do, so much to see, it could be one of the best open worlds if they did it right and stuck to the lore.
With this news of inXile being bought by Microsoft, I now can believe maybe it is indeed inXile that is making BG3. With MS's backing WotC would have a LOT more confidence that inXile could deliver a really good game, because inXile on its own has delivered two rather shoddy products recently in the form of BT4 and T:ToN.
A highly doubt this potential BG3 has anything to do with that old thing, though. Maybe in the same sense as New Vegas reused plotlines and lore fluff from the old Van Buren project.
I have always wanted a Baldur’s Gate 3. I don’t necessarily think it needs to continue the Baal Spawn Saga as that is clearly dealt with now.
I would love it to be open world (obviously) and I would definitely want the city of Baldur’s Gate and the sword coast to be the setting again. I really would like to see what’s going on around the sword coast since I presume it would be set on a date much further forward in time to line up with D&D’s current timeline. I would love to see loads of lore scattered around the game with info on what happened to characters from the previous games and their eventual fates or as some people have said characters like Arie being elves could likely still be alive and make a cameo. Would be cool to see random info on Charname scattered around and nice if we could get a confirmation on who won the duel between him and Viekang (if we haven’t already). First person is a big no for me, I’d rather it be top down or 3D. Finding some reason in the new story to visit Candlekeep would be great and would be a good opportunity for a bit of nostalgia. It can easily justify being named Baldur’s Gate 3 just by having enough lore and small connections without being a duplicate story, as long as it’s set on the sword coast and the city of Baldur’s Gate plays a large role. Depending on how large they wanna make the game they can make it possible to travel to further locations as well but I would be happy with it being just set on the sword coast again. I would love them to include stronghold quests again similar to the ones in Shadows of Ann. Always loved the Ranger cabin.
Just my opinion but I do hope that if Baldur’s Gate 3 does happen that if will be something along those lines.
Or, it could be a prequel. The plot centers around trade negotiations in Baldur's Gate, which Gorion has been asked to attend. He brings along charname, who is at this point an annoyingly insufferable - but very special - child. Lots and lots of trade negotiations.

..and would this story include an alien clumsy/"funny" sidekick called Jar Jar Binks?
They didn't really source their sleuthing, but this article makes it sound like the big III on Larian's website isn't for Divinity, Original Sin 3, but is instead for Baldur's Gate 3.
Crazy, if true. We might be close to an announcement.
Yea it’s pretty blatant. The metadata for the files on the site specifically call it ’Baldurs Gate Logo III’ and have references to Wizards of the Coast copyright.
Plus that Kotaku Larian Baldurs Gate 3 article has been retweeted by Brian Fargo saying something like ‘Here it comes’
As much as I love Beamdog, I'm very glad that BG3 is actually being worked on by a capable company like Larian. Otherwise we would have to wait 15 years for its release.
We have countless, far more interesting locations in the Forgotten Realms alone, we really have no need to be visiting the Sword Coast yet again, and trying it to the previous story would be an even worse idea. But at least we have a potential new DnD game, so i'm not complaining.
It's not that the game will be set in Baldur's Gate even if the game's title says that. After all, BG2 were set in Athkatla, which is Amn, not Sword Coast. Maybe the title is just being kept for nostalgia reason, just to pull a BG franchise fanbase. BG3 can be as well set in any other place in Faerun an not be centered around original protagonist at all. I wouldn't worry that Larian would somehow continue original plot.
Edit: I think Larian is learning on their mistakes. DOS2 is way less goofy than DOS.
