"Tell me 'bout the rabbits." Xzar (his best banter with his mad voice)
"Stop touching me!" (2° best, very funny)
"I know of dragons with feet like rabbits, 'tis true, I swear." (3° better)

That's why I love Xzar! xD ''Your voice is ambrosia'', and something about a magic adventure he says that sounds priceless. xD

If you've got a straight answer ANYWHERE in that bent little head of yours, I want to hear it pretty damn quick or I'm going to take a large blunt object roughly the size of Elminster AND his hat, and stuff it lengthwise into a crevice of your being so seldom seen that even the denizens of the nine hells themselves wouldn't touch it with a twenty-foot rusty halberd! Have I MADE myself perfectly CLEAR?!" - CHARNAME

My favourite lines are the following:

Aerie (to Viconia): Nobody deserves you, just like nobody deserves some horrid disease! You're like some affliction that should be cut off from the rest of the body!
Viconia (to Aerie): Like your wings? Oh, don't glare little girl. You have nothing to offer Charname, no matter how desperate you play. You cannot compete.

Aerie (to Viconia): I can't imagine what you think to accomplish. You think Charname doesn't see the saliva dripping from your fangs? You're not worthy of him, Viconia.
Viconia (to Aerie): And I suppose a mewling kitten like yourself is? Do not make me laugh, wingless one. You are not even worthy of licking Charname's bootheel.
Aerie (to Viconia): M-maybe Charname doesn't care for your lusts, drow. Evil like yours isn't seductive, it's just sick, and... and seeing you crawl all over Charname makes me retch.
Viconia (to Aerie): It takes strength in a man to gain my attention, little fool. I am sure he has no interest in one who can barely pull herself together to utter a sentence.

    And of course:
Viconia: Come to me, then, my mrann d'ssinss. You have defeated me...now taste your victory...

    Boooooooooooooo!! *GotohellViccy* :3 xD

Aerie's odd, because she simultaneously gets a lot of abuse on forums, but is still a very popular character. I think the problem is that people assume what kind of character she is; either the sweet, angelic moe character, or the whiny teenager, and it creates some kind of dissonance when she doesn't conform fully to either expectation... she can be nasty and aggressive, although it's unusual for her, and she's not really whiny since she never talks about her wings to anyone besides the PC if they encourage her to. Personally I like that she's a complex character; she's trying really hard to be nice despite her past and fears and insecurities, but she does have some pent up anger in there.

Anomen gets a lot of abuse too... although I've never really noticed it for Jaheira.

Now Haer'Dalis should have been a female romance option! He would've been perfect for it - and I hate romances :)

I believe he was originally intended to be but that his romance was cut due to time constraints. There was also an NPC quest related to Hair'Dalis that was cut. I'm kinda hoping both will be included in BG2:EE if that ever comes to be.

It would be interesting to romance Haer'Dalis... Though I believe he's not exactly my Charname's type of guy.

Btw, so far (mid-ToB) I haven't been annoyed by Anomen that much. But he did earn his jerk status when he belittled Mazzy, of all people!

I just can't understand why Aerie gets so much flak. It's not like anyone here can understand what it feels like to lose their wings and so on(I hope so, anyway). She's still a highly useful caster, she's nice to Minsc etc. And then there's that moment when she says to Adalon that she's beautiful, apparently quite spontaneously and not trying to gain her goodwill. I can't remember the exact quote, but it melted my heart; my heart became molten etc. Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!1

Well, the reason why Aerie annoys me a little is that sometimes... she can be a little too naive, and also she doesn't defend herself from Korgan, or Viconia sometimes. It makes want to yell at her that she shouldn't let herself to be abused, mostly because those characters take advantage on the fact that she's too innocent and fragile. She's really nice... But sometimes she's just kind of dumb. Or too fragile at any case. And yeah, look; each character on BG saga had their rough past. Mostly the Romanceable ones. Everyone of them had really hard times that bring along to conversation because it affects them at a single and unique way. Even Charname had its own bunch of hard big deals and still, he/she manages to keep going on. Some of them had rougher times than the others, and Aerie's was one of the hardest. Still, I believe she's sometimes too overreacted. I mean, it's hard. But someone saved her life... And she, at least at the beginning, can't see that as a huge relief. It shouldn't be anyways. But she often drops herself into auto-pity. And that's something that makes her extremely insecure... 'till the point of being more afflicted than the others because of her past. And also present.
As for Anomen... I find he's also insecure, but at a different way; because his pride is an useful way to cover his own lacks or desires to become someone better... He even says so if you're romancing him; that he usually loses his temper with its own person because he seems to be ''unable'' to be as good and righteous as he wishes to be. And even though he can be really rude or... whiny at any case, he's got a good heart at the end of the day. He just doesn't know how to overcome his impulsivity and evil thoughts, that's why he makes a lot of mistakes and can be a little overreacted, besides of annoyingly egocentric.

Not dumb, but Aerie is naive, and obviously unused to interacting with people, at least as their equal. Even when she's trying to stand up for herself and be nasty, it obviously doesn't come as naturally to her as to Viconia. With Korgan she does put her foot down somewhat, choosing not to be harassed by physically powerful mercenary who is known to have murdered his old party. She could have handled it better, but it's still a brave thing she does, since she really doesn't know many people in Amn or have that many places to go. She'll even turn against the Bhaalspawn if he tries to poison the grove, and she's the one who dumps Haer'Dalis when she realizes it's not going to work. So she's naive and insecure, but definitely not a pushover; she stands by her convictions and is prepared to fight for things she wants and believes in. She also handles herself pretty well when you first encounter her trapped as an ogre; and her first words while she's trapped like that are telling you to go away and save yourself.

And again, it's only in the romance that she ever confides in anyone and starts to open up about her past and wings; otherwise, she does just quietly get on with things for the most part. Some people think that it's too one way and she's unloading while the bhaalspawn goes through some trauma as well; but it's simply written that way because the writers assume you know your own characters backstory (and the same is true for the other romances as well). She does comfort Minsc, and offer to comfort Anomen although that backfires... but there's no reason to believe that if Bhaalspawn wanted a shoulder to cry on, she wouldn't let him. Maybe having feelings for Charname and knowing about Irenicus locking him in that birdcage is what triggers her to relive her own experiences...

I like Aerie all right. But she seems like a little child. I can't imagine bringing her on a dangerous quest and I try not to. Great cleric/mage though :)

I don't really romance her much, since I see her as more of a little sister type. She basically takes the place of the Bhaalspawn and Imoen from the first game; a naive adventurer who is learning about the world. But she can definitely handle roughing it, at least, because she comes from a traveling circus. And all that pent up anger gives her energy she can direct toward studying and fighting baddies. :)

@Coutelier I agree with you completely except for the not romancing Aerie, and seeing her as a little sister. My personal cannon playthrough always has her as the love interest. Still, you're playing a different character than I am.

Well, I somehow tried to say the same about when you say she doesn't know how to handle the situation just fine. I may think she's naive. But there's a reason why she still manages to go on adventure and not be frightened by it, doing her best to turn out useful. I do not discount her efforts, since she's insecure but tries hard to overcome that, and in ToB she does. But I keep on thinking she sometimes doesn't seem to know the right way to solve things... Situations that strike against her mostly. Yet... I think most characters tease her because she's one of the most good characters and remains with her innocence. Most BG characters lost it whether being that way by nature or losing it because of certain situations. I think that's a reason why people somehow... Feel sour grapes towards her. She's got a lot of pain, and despite that, maintains her innocent nature and good intentions. That's something some characters on BG lack of. Some of them care about it, some of them don't.
And about the reciprocal consolation... Well, it would be stupid to think there's any romance where the backing comes one-sided. No matter who you are, or how strong you feel to defeat hassles on your own, if you're in love, you need your lover's support. That's a fact everywhere... Nothing about ''men don't cry, men are stronger than women'' etc, or so that xD By the way, to receive an open consolation in the game, you have Flirt Pack, and use it whenever you want! xDD

In my cannon, she becomes very friendly with Imoen... not necessarily 'partners' in that sense (although that would also be unbearably adorable). :p

Aerie does try to comfort Bhaalspawn in ToB. She doesn't always know how to handle things, but that's why she joins you; she wants to learn and become better and stronger. It's only really Viconia and Korgan who tease her often. Edwin mostly doesn't pay her much mind, and the other characters all seem to like her well enough (apart from the spat with CN Anomen).

I think some people do make an assumption that because horrible things were done to her, she should be bitter and vengeful about it. It seems simple and logical, but it's not always true. There are many people like Aerie who have horrible experiences, but it makes them want to be nicer to other people and prevent them from having similar experiences themselves. It's the harder path in a lot of ways, and obviously Aerie does have that pent up anger that slips out sometimes. When she was with the slavers or in the circus, I think she'll have learnt that getting mad never helped her much, since she could never win a fight in that situation. So she's for the most part become very good at redirecting any negative energy she feels toward other more useful things, like chores and studying, and, when she becomes an adventurer, kicking evil's butt. :)

But anyway, since this is supposed to be about favorite quotes:

'I... I won't let my friends be hurt!'

PC: You inspire me as well, Rasaad.
RASAAD: Do I? In what way?
PC: You're very clean. I never see you shaving, but there's your bald head, smooth as an egg!
RASAAD: Well, of course. Cleanliness is one of the most important--why are you laughing?
PC: I was thinking of that famous thief who stole the word "gullible."
RASAAD: This time I can tell you are joking! Perhaps with your help I can improve in this regard.
PC: I don't know. You might do better to run off and join a circus, study with some clowns.
RASAAD: But I have always found clowns to be quite frighten-- No, I get it! This is another of your splendid jests! I will meditate on some humorous things to say later.
    PC: o_O

...but he never did. Maybe in BG2EE! *crosses fingers*
