Baldur's Gate Logic

I just thought this would be a fun topic.

Posting stuff about Baldur's Gate in the same vein as "video game logic"

Here's an example.

Is a Thief with 18 Dex and a lock pick skill of 40: still can't open the chest on the 2nd floor of the Candlekeep Inn
Is a Fighter with 24 strength and a +3 Two Handed Sword: Still can't break locks that the Thief with 16 Dex can pick easily.

    Warrior CHARNAME hasn't rested since Candlekeep till the end of Throne of Bhaal: still only got slight sympthoms of sleep deprivation after two years of continuing questing.

    How do you deal with fatigue which starts making crazy things happen when you let it really start to pile on? Like L20 fighter being unable to hit a kobold, let alone something dangerous.

    Realistically it wouldn't stop with just suffering penatlies to hitting things or getting hit by said things. It should be more like: fatigue->penalty to mind affecting spells->greater malison->enfeebled and/or energy drain->rigid thinking->dying->death.

    The game however allows you to basically play a character who never sleeps and still survive to the bitter end when you're crafty with items. It's actually a really fun roleplaying situation which is only rarely used by gaming folks: A legit and easy to relate journey towards paranoia and ultimatively madness. Everyone gets moody without enough sleep, multiply this a hundredfold with the stress of daily survival in deadly dungeons and you basically get a Xzar character even as an Lawful Good Paladin. :D

    Yes, if only temporarely. Keeps things interesting when suffering a relapse.

    Yeah I guess everyone else paid the 5000 gp for the magic license.

    It helps to have Unfinished Business, because then you get a magic license (for free) for finishing the Kidnapping Boo Quest.

    If CHARNAME is dire charmed by vampires, Drizzt and other allys fail to realize it is a spell and decide to abandon him.

    If allys or innocents take ANY damage from a spell hurled by your party, they will fail to realize the true target and instead opt to turn on you.
