Ok I started an Archer also and have been playing her for a while and what just happened to her is nothing short of amazing. I want to get to the good stuff but I shall have a quick recap.
Elnera, an elven Archer sets off on a treacherous quest after Gorion is slain in cold blood. Imoen did not last long as was basically eaten by a wolf right after she joined up. Monty and Xzar join the party to sort out the troubles down south. The party acquires Khalid and Jaheira from the FAI after dealing with Tarnesh in swift fashion. Monty gets slain by a hail of arrows from a quad back of kobolds rendering the party thief-less. We head south and do some running around in Beregost, killing an evil mage named Silke and taking Garrick in as a musical companion. Continuing south we arrive at the town of Nashkel and employ Minsc and his hamster and agree to save his friend. An Assassin tries to kill us in the Inn but the party squeaks by unscathed. The party explores the carnival and kills a few ogres and another evil mage named Zordal. A bit of gambling is enjoyed and the party continues south to the mines. We encounter Prism and agree to save him from a man named Greywolf. Greywolf comes and 1 hits Minsc to death and Khalid resumes the role of the bruiser. Khalid was saved by Garrick's god sent music when Greywolf sent him into an uncontrollable panic attack.
Okay this is where things get epic.
The party enters the Nashkel mines and begins piercing it's way through many kobolds. Having no thief left the party susceptible to traps and unfortunately Khalid and Jaheira were slain by the ungodly booby traps, a sacrifice that had to be made. Garrick, Xzar and Elnera kept on trucking and ran into a nasty pack of kobolds and a commando across a bridge. Garrick took a fire arrow to the heart and was slain instantly. Xzar and Elnera can sense the mines are coming to an end and brace themselves for the worst. A mage by the name of Xan is employed and the trio confront a man named Mulahey. Xan casts charm person on him and we send him into the corner to try and cast hold person and entangle on himself but the charm wears off and he confronts Elnera. Mulahey summons a depressing amount of skeletons and kobolds right on top of the party and an impending doom is almost certain. Running to the cavern in the east, Mulahey managed to cast rigid thinking and sleep on Elnera, rendering her useless. Xan desperately fires off a color spray spell which only was successful on a couple of kobolds. He is slain rather quickly as the party is enclosed upon. The skeletons, kobolds and Mulahey close in on Xzar and Elnera and a pending death is almost certain. Xzar throws the kitchen sink at his foes, and will all his spells spent he is cornered and slaughtered by a kobold and it's posse. Elnera shakes the rigid thinking and equips Varsonca and a shield which would prove to be an unbelievable saving grace. Utilizing all 10 charges of the magic missile, her sole cure light wounds spell, all her potions and all the luck in the world, Elnera was able to slay Mulahey and his goons and crawl her way out of an impossible situation and claim a glorious victory. Shell shocked, Elnera will need to find more companions and come back for the daunting amount of loot that she is forced to leave in the mines.
Wish I had more screenies of this battle, was the most epic thing I've ever witnessed in BG
Sad to report that Elnera has been slain. Nimbul made short work of her with a single magic missile. I should of avoided him and got some other party members first....
no screen shots, just sadness. She had a decent run, and I am thoroughly crushed. I'm going to go cry in a corner now
@EnterHaerDalis No! Just, no! After reading that inspiring escape from the clutches of impending death, at nigh on impossible odds, it is a hammer blow to read that a single magic missile laid her to rest. Alas, such is life.
Still. You'll never forget that epic encounter with Mulahey. That was amazing!
After meeting with his ward Gorion, Gareth ventured forth into the world. Unfortunately, Gorion's life was quicly cut short by a man in a spiky suit of armor. Gareth fled, and was joined in the morning by his kid sister, Imoen. Although they were left without guidance, they made their way to Gorion's body, recovering his equipment and documents. After a short grievance period, they made their way to the east. After only about 50 feet, they ran across a hungry wolf who immediately focused on Imoen. The two nocked their arrows, drew back their bowstrings and prepared to fire...until the wolf ripped out Imoen's throat with one lunge. Fearing for his life, Gareth immediately sprinted away, firing arrows at every available opportunity. While running he came across two adventurers and immediately requested their aid. After bestowing Gareth with a healing potion, Xzar and Montaron joined the fray, and their combined might brought the beast down. After the incident, the group decided it would be a good idea to proceed immediately to the Friendly Arm Inn where they might speak further. After a relatively tame journey featuring a lone gibberling as the only combatant, they arrived at the inn only to meet a man Tarnesh. Tarnesh turned out to be an assassin proficient in the magical arts, but the party managed to destroy the man before a single spell was cast. After entering the inn, the group met with Khalid and Jaheira, who agreed to join the group. After accepting a few fetch quests, the party departed for Beregost to the south. On the way, the group met an ogre with a belt fetish who brought Jaheira to within an inch of her life. Luckily, Khalid tossed his love a health potion and she escaped from the battle with only minor wounds. After looting the ogre's filthy corpse, the group completed their journey to Beregost. They first encountered a young girl named Neera who was fleeing from some horrifying men in red. After finding out that the girl was a very special kind of mage, the group helped to defend her from the brigands seeking to capture her. Afterwards, the girl was very grateful and offered to join Gareth's group. The group readily accepted and headed toward the town square. There, they met a young bard named Garrick who offered to pay them a substantial amount to act as bodyguards for his employer. However, once the group met Ms. Silke, a relatively powerful magic user, they realized her evil intentions and turned their weapons on the vile woman. Due to their immense skill and powerful weapons, they were able to bring the threat down in one round of fire and magical spells. The men Silke had asked Gareth's party to kill showed their gratitude with a potion, and the young man Garrick offered to join their group. As Gareth had noticed Xzar and Montaron exchanging shifty looks behind his back, Gareth offers to take the young man under his wing at the expense of the crazy wizard and his sidekick. They retreat to the local inn to rest and prepare for the trip the next day.
I hope to continue the adventure soon, but school is butt-kicking for evil right now...
Later that night, Gareth gathered his party and journeyed south on their way to Nashkel. After conquering a few ogrillions and entering a completely new area, the party encountered a ragtag band of hobgoblins. After making quick work of all of the sword-wielding rogues, they rushed the archers in the background. Unfortunately, one of the hobgoblins zeroed in on the vulnerable Neera and managed to strike her with arrows twice in a row, once in the neck and the final one directly through her heart. As Neera fell, the other companions finished off the pack and mourned the loss of their companion. However, time goes on as it always does, and they made their way to the town of Nashkel. Upon entering the town, they realized how fatigued they were, so they entered the local tavern to rest. However, they were set upon by an assassin by the name of Neira who was easily slaughtered by a couple rounds of ranged ammunition. After resting up, the group ventured farther into the town and were informed by the mayor that the local mines were in need of some serious help. After agreeing to help the mayor, they moved forward through the town and met up with a brave adventurer named Minsc. Though a bit thick/crazy, the man seemed to have a good heart and the group welcomed him with open arms. After meeting an obnoxious prick named Noober, the crew happened upon some amazing green armor in a pile of manure in a farmer's field. After such an interesting day, the crew decided to call it quits.
I mean, rp wise, this poor girl is obviously not gifted enough to become an archer, much more a Cleric to me...
Imagine, during her training in Candlekeep with her instructor "poor girl, you missed the target again..."
She is wise enough to consider it's time to change her career... she should have come to see the Priest of Oghma to seek guidance...
For instance, who would become a warrior if this person has not enough strength to obviously wield a long sword and so on ? If the character is cleaver enough, he will find ways to become thief or rogue so that he/she can have the benefits of this class.
So this is my fourth (4th !!) Cleric/Mage. Stubborn, me? Nahhh....
This time it's a he. Got a weird enough roll to begin adventuring:
Quite the normal beginning shenanigans. Killed a wolf.
Something bad happened
but I escaped north onto the world map. No casualties.
Ogre killing strategy worked
Another ambush
Spider-killing
Road to Nashkel
Since then I've lost Shar'Teel, Monty, Xzar and Viconia (sadness). Just killed Bassilus and reached Cleric 2/Mage 2. Finally I feel this might work out.
Cali Greenspan Halfling assassin Str 17 Dex 16 Con 16 Int 11 Wis 7 Cha 8 Left Candlekeep and hooked up with Imoen, Xzar and Montaron. Headed north to the FAI, no real trouble encountered. Met with Khalid and Jahiera, Khalid was put in charge of the group and we headed toward Naskel. Met a couple Ogrillion on the road, and lost Khalid and Jahiera both. Congrats to Monty, your now the tank. Made it to Naskel with no more trouble. Picked up Rasaad and Minsc. Promoted Minsc to Leader "Full plate and packing Steel!". With Minsc at the helm we head toward the Gnoll fortress to rescue Dynaheir. A woman approaches us with a story about some special tree, with a shrug we decide to help. Unfortunately Minsc goes down immediately and Monty follows shortly after, being sure to drink up all our healing potions as he does do. The group now stands at Cali, Imoen, Xzar and Rassad. They are in the middle if the forest and must choose their next move carefully.
Cali decides its time to retreat, and the group heads back to Naskel in search of new recruits. The group walks straight into an ambush, but is rescued by a half-Orc named Dorn. In thanks he is offered the spot of team leader. The group then heads to the carnival and recruits Branwen, now at full capacity, Cali, Dorn, Rassad, Xzar, Branwen and Imoen head back to finish the quest the began. To save Dynaheir. Unfortunately the group is ambushed by Xarts on the way. Both Rassad and Xzar rush into battle and fall just as quickly. The group prevails however, but is once again in need of help. They head north and recruit a young knight named Ajantis, while passing through Naskel they meet a mage named Edwin, he asks the group to kill Dynaheir. Kill her, save her? Either way. They take Edwin along for his magical knowledge. The group at last arrives at the Gnoll stronghold and storms the gates. The gnolls fall easily to the combined might of the group. Heading up the steps the groups stumble upon a group of xzarts, payback bitches! The group dispatches a large group of gnolls when suddenly the Gnoll commander appears. He deals quickly with Dorn, striking him down with one blow. He takes a magic missle to the chest with a shrug, and b-lines straight to Cali, he picks her up and tosses her over the wall to her death. Two shorties down.
I'm trying this, but I didn't get past the rolling stats stage. I was going with a cleric/ranger and I rolled a 95!. Now I'm stuck with doing the challenge or going with this guy.
I'll now let you know how I made the Cleric/Mage work. It's quite sad, actually – I played him as a Cleric. Yes, a crippled Cleric with 11 WIS and slower leveling. The point is I can use Ankheg Plate and still cast Cleric spells. Since the run is over once you get hit by an arrow or two, heavy armor is nigh a must in the early levels. Now that I'm level 4/4 with a whopping 14 HP I'm contemplating dumping the Plate. On the other hand it's gone so well I don't want to quit if he gets killed.
A few tips to you other players of the challenge (probably obvious to many). Immediately as you leave from Candlekeep, make a full party and buy everyone the best armor available. Also buy everyone ranged weapons and lots of ammo. This will boost your survivability at early levels. Use pulling and don't be afraid to utilize your resources every fight, like spells and potions if needed.
After bringing Landrin news of the despiderification of her house, the adventurers continued their way south towards Nashkel.
On the road leading out of town, they met two ogrillons who turned out to be the violent kind. They met their end shortly. One of them had a letter to a certain Mirianne in Beregost, taken from the courier lying dead next to the road, who paid the party well for the delivery.
Continuing further south they dispatched several groups of hobgoblins. One of the brigands had a magical pair of boots, which its halfling owner had been looking for back in Beregost. They delivered it to him for which they had been given some money.
They had finally arrived to Nashkel, where they heard there were problems in the mines, which they reckoned was also related to the iron shortage that was plaguing the Sword Coast. Khalid's and Jaheira's assignment was too look into that. They received the details from the town's mayor.
The group entered the tavern to rest, but was intercepted by another bounty hunter. She was a capable cleric, but finally the adventurers bested her. Khalid spent the entire fight being held, but was otherwise uninjured.
The next day they met a strange ranger named Minsc and his pet hamster, Boo. The man was looking for someone to help him free his ward, a witch named Dynaheir, from the gnolls' stronghold to the west. From the way he was talking to his animal companion it was apparent that something was wrong with his head, but they decided to help him regardless.
They refilled their supplies and started on their way towards the Gnoll Stronghold.
On the way out of town, they were ambushed by a winter wolf. After killing it they skinned the beast because they heard a shopkeeper in Nashkel paid a handsome reward for their furs.
Later, they came across what appeared to be a village populated by vicious little xvarts. The small demihumans were no match for a band of well-armed travelers, but their friend, Ursa the cave bear, was more of a challenge. In the end the adventurers prevailed. It was a massacre.
Further to the west, they found a nervous-looking nobleman trying to cross a bridge. He paid the travelers for their service of killing a big mountain bear that resided on the opposite bank of the river.
Later they were attacked by Neville and his band of hobgoblin bandits. Unlike his men, Neville was a worthy opponent. Killing him was tricky, but at least they were rewarded for it with a nice magical longsword that they pried out of his cold dead hands.
Another bridge crossing the river had been occupied by a band of hobgoblin archers and their two ogre friends. The adventurers were cautious with this bunch and decided to take them on one at a time. The ogre berserkers were quite tough, but with the help of Jaheira's druidic magic, they went down quickly.
On the other side of the river, they met a knight assaulting a pack of gibberlings. The travelers decided to help her. The beasts were no challenge.
Next, they were finally ready to move on, and take on the gnolls who had Dynaheir.
To be continued.
Man, bears are really dangerous in BG:EE now. They're not only extremely overpowered fighting machines, but also fast as hell. Couple of near death experiences up there. Khalid's life hanged on a thread about three or four times.
I've also rested a lot and used up most of my potion reserve. Not sure how I'll make my way back to town. I guess I'll have to improvise. But so far, so good.
Let's see the summary.
Current Party and Levelups:
Savilous: lvl 2 1 levelup, rolled 9(+1 from CON) for HP. Very nice, Savilous.
Imoen: lvl 3 2 levelups, rolled 5(+2) HP, then 5(+2) HP again. Eff yeah, Imoen!
there´s already a thread just like this one, why make another one...
and post some videos on youtube people... nobody seems to want to watch mine, but I´d love to watch ironman runs
If you would be so kind as to link me another 75 stat No Reload challenge thread I would be very much interested to see it
what the hell would be special about the number 75. also, go f*** yourself
You said there was another thread like this, and the number 75 is kind of key to this role playing theme. Also, don't be such a tool, you invaded the thread.
At long last I’ve decided to try a 75-stat roll no-reload run.
And after the discussion about the reloading on a level-up I’ve even come to a conclusion that there will be no reloads.
I so much like when the main character is a central figure of the party but in the same time BG is all about NPCs interactions and group strategies. Also if you’re soloing the game becomes easier after not so much time passed.
That’s why this will be a party run and the main character will be a multi-class gnome Illusionist/Thief – this type of character suites my tastes the best.
I use thieving skills more often than anything else and want to be able to open any container and to disarm any trap I come across. And I can’t imagine the main character without the abilities to cast.
Necromancy is the school of magic I see not so essential and having +1 spell per level definitely makes this character better than an elven Mage/Thief (though I’ll miss +1 THACO with bows and swords as well as his sublime avatar).
His name is Ryuusaki (“Dragon Cliff” in Japanese). Let’s get acquainted!
STR 8 (it will be enhanced with the Strength spell and – later – with the item of Ogre Strength)
