Hi there everyone. I hope you are having good time playing Sun and Moon.
Not so long ago I mentioned that I am unlikely to be playing Sun and Moon anytime soon due to my problem with money. As it turns out, the problem is much less notable, if it even exist after all due to two reasons. One reaons I can surely skip in this message. Second reason is that I didn't include Christmas period in my calculation - I utterly forgot about that.
So, it looks like there is a real chance of me getting my hands on Sun and Moon in December. But, naturally I need to buy Nintendo 3ds as well. And here my point really starts. I would like to ask you, what should I know and consider before buying my first 3ds. Looking at offers I see on the interet, there are significal differences in prices between 3ds very often and I am pretty sure that I can't tell why. What should I know about 3ds? What should I consider before buying? How about batteries? You know, I have basic questions like that. I am sure that people who already own the consele could answer these with ease.
Next, it's about pokemon games. 1) I'll buy either Sun and Moon first. So, which version would you recommended first, in terms of verion-exclusive pokemon/events? 2) I take it that games for first DS, like Platinum or HeartGold could be run on 3Ds, yes? 3) How does Pokebank and sending pokemon from one game to the other work? 4) I know that games like FireRed or Emerald could be played on DS. I assume that playing them on 3DS would be possible as well? 5). If I had to choose between X and Y (and these will be probably the second game I would buy), which wone would be recommended in terms of version exclusive pokemon/events/mega evolutions? 6). Another question regarding Sun and Moon. How once can obtain Ash-Greninja there?
I would appreciate your responses. Thank you in advance.
@O_Bruce I'll do my best to answer as many of these as I can. About the batteries, no worries, built in rechargeable. 1) I don't own them yet, sorry. But I do plan on picking up moon for the legendary. 2)DS games can absolutely run on a standard 3DS. Not sure about the more recent larger model. 3)No idea 4)Unfortunately no, advance games and earlier are incompatible. 5)Again, I chose for the legendary, note that Charizard has special forms though. X gets a fire/dragon, while Y remains fire/flying. 6)You need to play the free demo and finish it. From there I'm not sure.
Thank you for your answers. About X and Y, I'm still undecided, because both mega-evolutions for Charizard are really cool, same for verion-exclusive pokemon fossils. It will be a hard choice...
@O_Bruce MegaZard-X is a physical hitter that excels with Dragon Dance then 6-0ing while MegaZard-Y hits like a nuke with special attacks and creates auto-Sun. They do completely different things so it's a matter of which you'd prefer to have. I prefer Zard-Y for the OHKOs without setup but what have you.
After going through the plot and seeing the main villain's lair I find that frozen fish ice skating topic amusingly ironic now... just wait and see if you're not already there.
Well, looks like the SOS chaining system is definitely effective, if tedious. Caught myself a shiny 4IV Ditto after about an hour and a half of knocking out at least 80-90 of them in a row. Now I feel really guilty...
There is apparently going to be a Magearna event on December 5th; at least in the US... I think this is going to be given with a code (QR maybe?) that will appear on the pokemon website. I am not terribly sure on the details...
@FinneousPJ Yeah looks pretty awesome with that typing and 130 SpA, I'm more of a Diancie fan but I'm definitely throwing a Choice Specs or something on it.
Right now I'm kind of geeking out over Araquanid, Golisopod and Silvally, as well as
I played the last 3 Pokemon games, and I still only get half of what you people are talking about
My current roster: 1. Bagon 2. Misdreavus 3. Steenee (I'm evolving an Eevee to grass type, I dont like her moveset) 4. Litten 5. Kadabra 6. Butterfree (useful for catching pokemon)
I'm not sure about keeping 2 and 6 in my team. I would like some utility to apply status effects but I don't see who could learn something similar. Kadabra with Hypnosis would be perfect, but that's not possible, is it ?
@Yamcha I suggest trying anything you pick up that looks cool for 2 or 3 levels. This game uses a curved exp system so it's hard to get over or underleveled. I personally think you could do with something durable like a Skarmory.
Steenee's evolution packs one hell of a Fighting move, just saying.
I changed my team yet again recently... I replaced my Lycanroc with a Kommo-o. I just caught Lunala and am now finding my team quite underleveled. I usually play with the exp-share turned off for the extra challenge, but it seems I need to do some grinding now.
I experimented a little with the Zygarde thing and am pretty sure I know how it works now. I have yet to get a decent one from it though because it cannot be synchronized for a good nature...

What would be a good addition for this team ?
I'm proud to say I know 4 of the pokemon in this post.
Eevee, Kadabra, Butterfree, and Hypnosis.

(but seriously though are there many of the "original" pokemon available in Sun/Moon? I only know of the first 251)

@sarevok57 In game, if you lead with a Pokemon with the ability Synchronize, then any wild Pokemon you run into, including legendaries, have a 50% chance of having the same nature as your lead so it cuts back on the amount of resetting you need to do in order to get one with a nature you want. Now that works for Pokemon you get outside of battling too.
For reference there are 25 natures in the game, so Synchronizers are extremely useful for the sake of convenience.

I usually don't try too hard to breed for a shiny but Metagross just looks plain amazing in gold and silver.
Edit: in fact I was hatching the leftover eggs and I got another one. Man, if only I was lucky in ORAS! I have a feeling the guy in the Game Freak office (in-game) was lying and the odds are much better than 1 in 4000. I'm using Masuda method (aka using a foreign parent) and the Shiny Charm and the chance should still be 1/512.
I think I'll probably give this one away. Any takers? It's got solid IVs all around and 31 in Attack and Speed. the Beldum has been traded to @Tresset
This one's getting a Mega Stone so I want to max out that 110 base speed. Agility Metagross just wasn't doing it for me in ORAS. Unfortunately there's no move tutors yet so 4 attacks isn't as great as it could be... oh well.
when I got OR I got the shiny beldum from the event thingy, and kept soft reseting until I got one that was adamant with max attack IV , and man did that guy kick butt, I did a pokemon battle against one of my friends and my metagross took out his whole team and he had 2 legendaries on it, hahahah ah good times, when electrode's gyro ball did 0 damage to me, that was the icing on the cake hahaha
