OOC: I'd really enjoy to RP as Viconia or Mazzy. Viconia might be an issue being evil and all but I think she can mesh with good parties since in the game she can turn to True Neutral if I recall. If not Viconia then we could use Mazzy and her pseudo-paladin powers. Maybe she could teach a thing or two to Alora about being a Paladin.
The self-imagined defender of whomever is in the worst peril, Jaheira attacks Neera's ghast with a cry of, "For the fallen!" These may not be fallen, of course, but none could say, for certain, until the paralysis effect wore off.
@Vallmyr you can always come back as someone else. Probably after this adventure is over (there is little left to explore...)
Alora finds her efforts fail. Ajantis hits, killing one of the ghasts. Jaheira misses, trips over something on the floor and falls on her bupkiss. Minsc hits the remaining Ghast, but not very strongly. Arkanis also hits, a minor wound. Aerie misses.
The Ghast strikes out at Arkanis, leaving a long scratch on his face, but it's enough to paralyze him.
OOC: I can't remember if I still have Bless in my slots or not... If I do, I'd like to cast that instead of trying to hit these stupid things. Maybe it'll help?
Okay... Alora concentrates. Nothing happens. Minsc misses, Ajantis misses. Jaheira regains her feet. Aerie hits with her staff... for 1 damage.
The Ghast misses, but trips over Aerie's staff and takes a header into the ground. it somehow rips its own side open in doing so, doing six point of damage to itself.
Okay, I take it back. THIS round reminds me of the Keystone Kops... (sigh).
Party wins initiative again.
This time, only jaheira is successful in hitting the Ghast, which she slams into the ground again. It reaches out and claws her with both arms, but she makes her save and is unparalyzed. Yay!
Next turn, Ghast wins initiative. it continues clawing at Jaheira and strikes her for a single point of damage. Yet, her luck still holds and she saves vs. paralyzation once more.
The party strikes back, and Aerie takes out the Ghast with a staff to the back of its skull.
The party has won.
The item most of the party has been tripping over is a small, sleeping cat carved in very lifelike detail out of onyx. It is worth approximately 60 gp. It is approximately the size of a 2 or 3 month old kitten.
"Your staff skills are improving, Miss Aerie." Ajantis holds a smile for a second before a frown settles in, "which is more than I can say for my sword work in that battle."

Of course! Boo is teaching her as he taught me! Soon she will learn to fight with swords and then evil will tremble even more!
"Th-Thank you... Both of you." Aerie blushed, so unused to praise, especially from a pair of men who were much stronger than her. "I'm just glad I was able to save my friends, in any way I could."
OOC: Alora leveled up! She has survived long enough to become second level. Hurrah! I can't remember the last time I had a character go up a level in anything but a computer game.
@LadyRhian - How many extra thieving points does Alora get? I'll keep my fingers crossed for a high hit die roll.

OOC: None, Helm has heard your call for protection and to turn undead and you are now a cleric of him.
OOC: I love the idea of Alora turning into a cleric (or better still a paladin) but I think she would need to find about ten Tomes of Understanding before she would meet the requirements. And of course next week she will probably decide she wants to be a druid so she can turn into a bear.
OOC: Paladin/Druid/Thief... The mind boggles at the possibilities!
OOC: The large black bear sulks through the shadows of the keep tracking her prey into a small corner. She lifts one of her giant paws, claws out, she smites the evil necromancer for 50 points of damage + backstabbing damage. With the neceomancer torn in two, lying dead, Alora transforms back into her halfling form and rifles through the the corpses pocket removing a couple pieces of hard candy and promptly pops them all into her mouth. "No one touches my candy!"
This room is more tastefully decorated than the other, Spartan living quarters found elsewhere in the stronghold. There is a huge walnut bed against the west wall, rather ornately carved (somewhat resembling the bed with the "Z" insignia you found some days ago, but without the carved initial). The bed has an embroidered canopy in forest-green cloth, with a striking reddish trim, but just like everything else in this stronghold, it's very dusty- as is everything else in the room.
Next to the bed is a small nighttable/bedstand with a single drawer. Beside it and against the wall is a chest of drawers made of red cedar which, despite its age, still has the characteristic scent. In the drawers are some old leather items, old clothing and personal effects like combs, brushes and hairpins. One comb looks silver, but it is actually silver-plated (worth about 5 gp). On top of the chest is a tortoiseshell dish, empty but for a single gold coin. The dish lays on a piece of lace, which also holds two small glass bottles, capped and half-full of liquid.
On the north wall, just to the west of where you entered, is a full-length wall mirror in a wooden frame. At the crown of the frame is carved in attractive, curving designs, and there is an inscription hewn into the wood which reads, in common, "To the fairest of all in my eyes".
In the northwest corner of the room is an attractive water basin which is sculpted from the same rock which forms the wall of the room. Indeed, it's an integral part of the wall itself. A hole in the bottom of the basin is stopped with a rotting cork; this crude drain lets water drop to an inclined piece of rock which drains into a crack in the wall. There is no running water here, however.
A small tapestry measuring 3' by 4' hangs on the east wall. It depicts a handsome and robust warrior carrying off a beautiful maiden in a rescue scene set in a burning village, with a horde of ominous-looking enemies viewing the scene from afar. Embroidered in gold cloth at the top of the scene are the words, "Melissa, the most dearly won and greatest of all my treasures". The tapestry is within a wooden frame, and is firmly anchored to the wall.
Looking at the mirror, Jaheira said, "Somebody thinks a bit highly of him, or her, self." Probably a her, for 'her's were way more attractive than 'him's in the first place. That was, after all, the order of nature.
Except for some of the birds, but nobody here had wings. Anymore. It made her wonder if male winged elves were even lovelier than the femme-versions...
OOC: Alora will put 10 points into Hide in Shadows and 10 points into Move Silently.
Alora is interested in the tapestry: not so much for the artwork but for what it may conceal. She will check to see if there is a door or safe hidden behind it. If necessary she will attempt to remove the tapestry from the wall. However, she will do her best not to damage it in any way.

Party's current exp totals- Aerie 1206, Ajantis 1009, Alora 1305 (Now Level 2!), Anomen 1373, Arkanis 1286, Jaheira 1286, Minsc 1286, Neera 806.
If someone takes it before she becomes u-paralyzed she'll just let them have it.
