I wonder if that's all that really hides in this place. Such a mundane explanation doesn't feel right to me

"I agree, we still need to account for the various 'supernatural' things we have encountered in this building. If they were tricks then they were remarkably sophisticated. Plus, the brigands' leader seemed happy that we had killed the skeletons off, obviously implying that they didn't create them. If they didn't, who did? Necromantic abominations do not come into existence accidentally...I fear there is a far darker nature behind this mystery, one which we will no doubt all perish attempting to solve."

He turns to the newcomers: "Greetings. If you observe the carnage around us, you will note that several of the bodies appear to be wearing adventuring gear. Those were our former comrades. If you wish to avoid being another death in our hopeless crusade I suggest you turn around and leave. If not, then I admire your suicidal bravery and welcome you to our ragtag band."

Distracted by the words of the small and unimpressive (unlike Minsc in all ways, of course) Xan, Minsc turned and barked, "Less talk, more fight!" Only then did he realize that another tiny female had arrived, this even smaller than Branwen. This might explain the new voice more than the immobile figure with the book. "Tiny elf-man-witch, become useful." A stretch for Xan, Minsc knew, but being a hero often required a stretch. "And tell Boo what this man is reading. His poor eyesight does not help him with books."

Not for Minsc, however. He was born and bred to be nothing but an impressive hero. It was similar to how evil was born and bred to be evil, only better. He was huge, and in full plate, packing steel to boot! Evil was probably afoot, yet shaking in its boots, for Minsc was both at large and huge, a powerful combination indeed. This was only amplified by the presence of Boo, the only Miniature Giant Space Hamster in all the realms.

Woo!! I'm rich! I'm filthy rich! I'm financially secure! (And yes, I take his torches, too. Poor Yoshimo. It's dungeon recycling at its best. Or worst, depending on your point of view.)

You should be able to find my tinder box, candles and rope. I don't think Alora took those, that and the soap, hairbrush and mirror (hey I was prepared.)

Hi to you both. I am Mazzy, Knight of Arvoreen. You already met the optimistic elf Xan, don't worry you'll grow used to him, and the big warrior with the hamster are Minsc and Boo.

She then whispers to both newcomers "And for all that is holy in the Realms NEVER doubt anything he says about the rodent, don't even look at it too much, it makes him uncomfortable."
  • reedmilfamreedmilfam Member Posts: 2,808
"Because Boo is shy," Minsc agreed, for he had excellent hearing. Fortunately, Mazzy understood these things. The size of the hero in her was more than the size of her hero. Or something like that. Boo had come up with it, but it lost something in translation.

Imoen smiles at her new companions, even the morose elf Xan, and scratches the kitten by the ears and under the chin. Following Eldoth's ghost's advice, she relieves his corpse of tinder box, candles, rope, soap, and hairbrush. She also takes the venom dagger and a plain dagger from the pile of discarded loot. "I agree with Xan. The skeletons imply there's something else in this place. I'm just not sure where it is, and I'm glad I found all of you. Exploring alone was spooky."

OOC Imoen will be surprised how spooky it is to explore this place in her present company :)

Laughing aloud, Minsc told Imoen, "There is safety in numbers, and I am two or three, at least!" Compared to Imoen, he was more than that, but he left counting numbers to Boo. Swords were preferable - infinitely more so.

The book is dusty and full of words. The figure is only a skeleton, with some strands of hair remaining draped across the skull. Clutched in the figure's left hand is something smooth and golden and roughly ovoid in shape. On the table with the book is a set of five small discs, a candelabra, a rose, an apple and a skull, all formed of pure, gleaming gold.

Minsc, completely disinterested in golden discs and golden eggs, sighs. "No swords, eh, Boo?" As for the book, the same could be said. "This is no time for reading." Even if he could read it, which (of course) he couldn't. Having little patience for rhyming games and grammatical rules, Minsc focused on more important things. The bane of bullies and the scourge of evil, he'd taught many a miscreant to look into his eyes and change their ways. This was even more powerful, now that Boo had teamed with Minsc, which was greatly pleasing to him.

We've found a golden egg. Now we need to look for the goose that laid it.

Alora is convinced the skellington is probably a lich (and for some reason she's got a thing about liches) so she will keep away from it and start searching the room and the table for secret doors and compartments.

OOC @Permidion_Stark Bad memories from a previous life, perhaps? :)
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
@Minevese @Permidion_Stark Bad memories from a future life! ;) Considering she's only first level now...

Alora finds a secret compartment hidden under the desk. She presses the likely opening spot with a dagger, and a fire-scorched book falls out into her hands. It looks very much like the ones Xan and Edward use to memorize their spells, but a lot of pages are missing, burnt away...

Ah, the Doctor fixed it already. ;)

"It can burn when we are cold," Minsc offered. After all, books needed to be put to some use. Didn't they?
  • Permidion_StarkPermidion_Stark Member Posts: 4,861
I'm not going to open the book. I'll just give it to Xan. Though I doubt he is clever enough to use it. He's nowhere near as clever as Edwin was.
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
DM: Not clever enough to avoid being killed, though. ;)

OOC: I was looking at Xan's ability scores, how the hell does he manage to have 16 CHA? He's like the last person that would inspire people to follow him.

I'm going to keep checking for secret doors.

OOC Have we been right through the house or are there some places we haven't explored yet?
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
Well, you never searched the cellar room fully, or at all.
  • mlnevesemlnevese Member, Moderator Posts: 10,214
OOC I believe that's a hint... I'm almost as perceptive as Boo sometimes ;)
  • Permidion_StarkPermidion_Stark Member Posts: 4,861
OOC: We're in a haunted house and we haven't looked in the cellar? How dumb are we?
  • mlnevesemlnevese Member, Moderator Posts: 10,214
OOC Should I really answer that or was it a rhetoric question?
  • Permidion_StarkPermidion_Stark Member Posts: 4,861
I'll finish searching the room. Then, if the skellington doesn't come to life, I will search his robes and hat. Then we can gather up all the loot and head for the cellar.
  • LadyRhianLadyRhian Member Posts: 14,694
Okay. There's nothing on the skeleton. In its left hand is a small, lustrous golden ovoid that seems to glow faintly from within. It's very nice and smooth to touch, kind of like a worry stone.
