Nope. No scorch marks there- just on the walls of the room and on/in the book. Oh, and the book on the table is "Ye Secret of Ye Philosopher's Stone". No author is listed.
Branwen glances down at the dower mage's words. He seemed positively depressive. Much like he had already given up. One would have to wonder why he was even here. She nodded when the halfing knight told her about her new companion. He did seemed a little... touched.
She glanced around, and finding nothing of interest to her, waited for the rest of the group, to decide where to go to next. Perhaps they would be able to find the root of what ever troubles this place.
After some searching, and some help from Xan, you find two secret doors. One to the north leads back to the room you found earlier with the dead body and the box filled with Rot grubs that looks like boilng garbage.
Quickly backing away from the grubs, you find another secret door leading to the south. This one opens on a set of stairs leading down 5' to a landing, then heading east for another 20'. The area around you looks like natural cavern, and there is a keg standing on its end, as if someone merely set it down and would pick it back up later.
Paraplegic Kivan? Or eunuch Kivan? I think that would just be a tragedy better left alone. The ladies of the realm would all commit suicide in despair.
I'll leave the keg for the moment and look round the cavern for secret passages and the like. I'll ask Minsc to guard the door in case whoever left the keg comes back.

I'll go back to horny Kivan in Ravenloft, but if I get the chance to come back in Saltmarsh I'll use my alternative.
