“Bah! These skeletons are hardly worth noting! Away with you. (I shall not use my magic yet, no, for these things are hardly worth my talent... let the child deal with them, such is her lot to serve her betters.)”
*Anomen feeling slightly peeved that his god wouldn’t help him turn undead but Aerie’s gnomish god did - she is a freakin elf!! - charges the remains skeleton with his mace and shield*
Eventually, the party is able to batter the second skeleton to bits. (Putting you out of your misery.)
Inside, you find a 20' square room, with a door in the southern 20' of the west wall. On the south wall of the room is a lever. The lever has two positions, up and down. The down position is unmarked. The up position is marked "B". The lever is pushed down. There is nothing else in the room but the remains of the skeletons.
"There's probably another lever behind the door and we have to push both of them to raise the portcullis. I'll go and open the other door but can everyone get ready in case there are more skellingtons."
Alora goes to the other door and checks for traps. Once everyone is in place she will open it.
Inside the room is a single rat. A single 3 foot long rat with gray fur cowers in a corner as Alora opens the door. The rat seems half-starved, and too scared of Alora to attack.
“(Again my hypothesis proved prophetic. Clearly this one is of inbred heritage, though now I suspect he is also of simian relation. How I got saddled with such incompetence as my companions is a necessary burden, but one which grates on my sensibilities...)” Edwin continues grumbling along these lines until they see the rat.
“(Hmm... interesting. Perhaps this rat can prove useful. At the very least, it will serve as a food source for the clumsy mongrel when its dietary needs must be satisfied. Obviously, as one of animal intellect, the Clumsy One cares not that the rat has little meat on its bones, only that he may chew said bones between its teeth.) You there! Clumsy One! Try to convince this rat to join our cause. I may have a use for it. Here, use this jerky as a method of communication, though I’m sure you speak its language and have little need for it. Can you understand me?”
Tiax looks at the rat with disdain and says “Tiax decrees that we hurry on! He grows tired of waiting! Kill the vermin if you wish, but do it swiftly.”

Holding her short sword in one hand Alora opens the door.

IC: “Might as well put this disease infested vermin out of its misery. It’s the only humane thing to do at this point.”
She gives the rat some chocolate cake.
