Vaga releases Fi and Guston from his grip and sits down on his knees. He closes his eyes and starts a quick mantra in his head, a mantra to cool him and his temper.. the gnome is getting on his nerves and he cannot allow himself to ever lose control. It happened only once in the monastery where he received his training, but it was enough to break both bones and rules and ended with him being kicked out shamefully. He promised himself that day to never again lose his temper, to never again strike anyone out of aggression and never deliberately hurt someone. Unless they properly deserve it.
The gnome is annoying. But he doesn’t deserve it. Not yet.
Mind over body. Mind over body. Mind over body....
As the party waits patiently for the spell to wear off, Kaled, Harvey, and Emeril reach the first fork in the path. Harvey looks at the large footprints leading right, and he frowns. “These are lion tracks,” he says. “Why would a lion be down here?”
The disembodied voices, there thoughts were not detected before hand. Magic? Illusion? And where do we find ourselves? I have no knowledge of this delving.
*Anduin rises.*
Okay. At first I was afraid we were going to be attacked if we illuminated our way. Now I am more afraid of getting lost. We need a little light. The gentle sort.
*Anduin casts:light. The maze is illuminated in a warm yellow glow*
Aah! Much better.
Now then, we may not be able to record our way using a map although I did seriously considered writing in my own blood on Vaga's bare back but we can record where we have been.
*Anduin pulls out his club from under his cloak and uses its head to rub away at the moss, brick and dust on the floor to create an arrow pointing to where they have just come from. *
Okay, we put an arrow at the end of each junction to point to where we have just headed from. We can then follow them back to the first junction, where we have no mark, and head left (because we turned right originally to follow the footprint) and follow the path back out. I suggest we go right again.
*Anduin smiles at his own cleverness. Then begins to frown.*
Vaga, are you listening? Wait, are you chanting "follow the arrows home, don't hit the gnome?!?"
*A minute passes and Fiora groggily comes through*
"Forsooth! Methinks we be surroundedededed!" *She stumbles a bit and regains her composure* "Wow, deja vu. Okay, be on guard everyone, there is evil all around us. Try not to step in any."
*Fiora draws her sword and buckler, prepared to defend against evil*
Vaga opens his eyes, stands up and looks at the gnome with a look that's supposed to be a cross of endearing and piercing. His low charisma come into play again resulting in a failed attempt at mixing the two, and he end up looking a bit deranged for a moment.
"I am always listening, Anduin. Very well, the idea is good. Let's press on and continue keeping to the right.
Guston, Fi. If we ever get separated and you have trouble seeing. Keep your right hand to the wall and just keep going and never let go of the wall. Then you will find me or I will find you."
Vaga starts to walk down the right path, a bit slowly 'cause he is also searching for traps or more tracks. He's neither a ranger nor a rogue, but he got keen senses.
Who's saying left? Both Vaga and Anduin says right, Fi is dazed and confused and Guston is silent. Kaled and the others haven't fully catched up. Let's go right
As the party waits patiently for the spell to wear off, Kaled, Harvey, and Emeril reach the first fork in the path. Harvey looks at the large footprints leading right, and he frowns. “These are lion tracks,” he says. “Why would a lion be down here?”
"Don't your scorpion friend have a lion cousin by chance?"
*Anduin actively searches, he usually relies on animated skeletons to stumble into traps for him, having Vaga do it for him is a novelty.*
As a gnome I should recognise an illusion.
*Anduin begins tapping the walls with his club listening for any difference in sound or feedback through the club to his hands. He is aware that with the light and the tapping, everyone is going to be aware of their presence.*
Guston continues to follow his friends. He’s not as afraid as usual, for some reason, though he knows he won’t be very good when the fight finally comes down to it. He continues to search for traps and keeps silent as Anduin and Vaga lead them further into the depths of wherever in the nine hells they are.
Yeah, I misread a previous post. Okay, so the party goes right
The party takes the right path again, Vaga and Anduin in the lead. Anduin doesn’t find any illusionary walls.
Anduin: Spot check: 11 Vaga: Spot check: 4+3=7
As they walk along, Anduin does see telltale signs of an illusionary floor though, but not before Vaga steps right into it, and his foot finds no purchase.
Vaga: Reflex save: 16+5=21
Luckily, he is able to grab the edge of the solid ground and keep himself from falling. Everyone else basically sees Vaga fall into the floor before catching himself.
"That was a nice challenge. Always nice with a test of the old reflexes." Vaga says in a neutral voice as he climbs back up again after nearly falling into a bottomless (?) pit.
"Careful friends, it does seem we're not wanted here. It's better I continue to go first so that if I die, you can continue the mission. "
Vaga climbs up on the other side of the pit and continues on. He continues to actively searches for traps and tracks. He doesn't rush ahead, he keeps a pace so that the group can stay together.
We’ll just use the previous checks for Guston and Ignatius as they proceed through the maze.
Guston, Anduin, and Ignatius can see that, while the illusionary floor is not very big vertically, it is wide enough horizontally to leave no room between the walls for land-bound people to cross.
Hmm.. is the gap wide, did I RP wrongly when Vaga managed to climb up on the opposing side? I can edit my post to make him grab the ledger on the side they came from if you want @Nimran
Heh heh... I can levitate, so I can cross gaps on the floor easily.
If only I had sufficient strength, I could carry the others to the other side.
Ignatius (still invisible) levitates to the other side of the illusory floor and looks for any switches or levers to activate so that the others can cross over the gap.
Harvey shakes his head and replies “Nope!” He then starts heading down the right path.

There does not seem to be anything besides the tunnel.
Vaga stand alone on the other side and shouts encouragingly.
“You can do it Fi. If not you will die for your friend, a most honorable death! Watch your step now, make sure you don’t fall down!”
Vaga muster all of his charisma into his speech and hope he has fired up Fi now before her jump. He likes her and if she died it would be a loss for the mission.
*Anduin walks to the edge of the pit and removes his cloth cap, bowing his head.*
Although I only knew Fiora for a short time, it was clear to me that she lived her life like a firework, a rocket... A blaze of sparks and pretty colours enjoyed by all, before ending with a... with a... bang.
*Anduin pats Guston on the head in awkward solace.*

Let's wait here a minute.

Vaga waits patiently.
*Anduin thinks*

Unfortunately everything feels very real...
The party takes the right path again, Vaga and Anduin in the lead. Anduin doesn’t find any illusionary walls.

*Fiora picks up Guston, lifting him over her head and walks to the pit...*
Gnome tossing is not as famous as dwarf tossing but you have my blessing to...
*cough*
“You can do it Fi. If not you will die for your friend, a most honorable death! Watch your step now, make sure you don’t fall down!”
Vaga muster all of his charisma into his speech and hope he has fired up Fi now before her jump. He likes her and if she died it would be a loss for the mission.
Fiora skillfully throws Guston across the pit.
Guston lands nimbly on his feet on the other side.
Next is Anduin.
Fiora successfully heaves Anduin across the pit.
Anduin manages to stay on his feet.
Then Fiora finally jumps across herself.
She jumps, but feels the heavy weight of her armor, and she falls just short of the other side.
She doesn’t have enough time to grasp the edge, and she falls into the pit.
“Fiora!” he shouts as the halfling paladin falls down the pit, reaching out to grasp her fingers a second too late.
Although I only knew Fiora for a short time, it was clear to me that she lived her life like a firework, a rocket... A blaze of sparks and pretty colours enjoyed by all, before ending with a... with a... bang.
