Let's just hope those new "kits" won't be hardcoded as heck. Have they officially mentioned anything about PoE2's moddability besides the customizeable GUI stretch goal?
I don't understand, what's the compelling need for the physical product? Even if it's not the reason, Mother Nature will thank anyone who refuse to create unnecessary physical products, especially plastic ones. I say, to hell with all physical copies and only allow digital sales in countries where internet access is prevalent.
You do know high or even moderate speed internet isn't everywhere even in first world counties? In Ireland we have HUGE problems with the internet. So much so that businesses can't set up in rural towns because of poor signal and very limited speeds. I live near the biggest city in the country and a 6GB download could take a few days for me.
Its just sheer laziness and pushes away a portion of actual paying customers.
Of course, that's why I said it would be in countries where internet access is prevalent; 1.widespread; of wide extent or occurrence; in general use or acceptance. 2.having the superiority or ascendancy. 3.Archaic. effectual or efficacious.
Does this sound like I was referring to DL speeds that would make it take days to DL a game? Please do me the courtesy of not thinking I am stupid before doing your homework.
So, I see that my comment obviously made some people feel the need to support the reason for needing physical copies, but really you don't have to since my comment was not directed to you or to anyone living in a country where the DL speed is slow.

Did you even read my post? You said you didn't understand so I explained in detail that even in the top first world countries where internet is prevalent they still have massive problems with not just DL speeds, but caps, usage fees and unstable connections/signal. Thats why physical copies for games are still a necessity for so many people. Your comment was directed directly at me since we have very high internet speeds in many major cities and towns here but we also have rural places just a few miles out still on dial up speeds.
I can understand where they are coming from with it being costly to manufacturer but the box has always been a part of IE style games. I'm sure most of us still have BG/IWD on a bookshelf somewhere. They do mention that there were problems with the last box set when they didn't give out the extra code despite the perk listing it so its a way to combat that.
OKAY, the game will be in Spanish - time to get the Italian language!!! Also, the new stretch goal will double the VO and introduce the Korean language.
Eh. It's just over 50% of what the Kickstarter for PoE 1 brought in. Obsidian set the bar ridiculously low to create "buzz" about meeting stretch goals. It's a marketing gimmick.
Frankly, if the backer campaign had only raised the "initial goal" of $1.1 million compared to PoE 1's $4 million, that would be very disappointing.
they were already working on the game for a year. the fig was just to help out development.
and they need to use crowd funding with pillers so obsidian can still own the ip.
That is the likely biggest difference between the two crowdfunding campaigns.
The kickstarter campaign was: "we can't make this without you" The fig campaign is: "we can't make this the way we'd like to without you"
If it were really about stretch goals and hitting 300-400%, PayPal would have been an option from the start. I think Obsidian just had a realistic figure for what it would take to finish up and retain ownership the IP. Everything else is extra.

I am actually quite interested in what Obsidian will do with Pillars of Eternity 2.
