there wasn't any harassment, as far as i can tell. what was purported to be harassment were accusations that there's a fake account situation going on, and those were true.
250 Dutch preachers signed the "Nashville statement" (https://cbmw.org/nashville-statement) proclaiming exclusion of LGBT people, proclaiming that being born male it's only allowed to identify as male, when being born female you're only allowed to be identified as female, loving the same gender is unheard of, not allowed, unpure. Blah blah. Blwergh.

Overwatch team discovers female player was an imposter
But does that make harassment justified?
Harassment? If the fake account was "male" instead of "female" the only thing that would be different about this story is that it wouldn't have been reported on as much I mean heck, lets look back at the dexerto...
"we do background checks to ensure that players are who they say they are as well as meet other eligibility requirements, and will take action against players if we discover any behavior that warrants it." of Overwatch League and Overwatch Contenders players
"'Ellie' was never formally submitted to the active roster of Second Wind and never played in a Contenders match," said Blizzard.
Ths person literally didn't follow any of the rules and slipped in. This was the story, this led to the accusation of being called a fake account.
But how was it spun and to many still is? "North America’s first female Overwatch Contenders player steps down after harassment"...
... ... ... ... ... yea...
Now, since I'm not one to hide information to make things look more in my favor, there was talk among some pro about actually doxxing her, and that is a grotesque action that I will always condemn, but that was not what started any of this While I don't want to defend the action I'm not going to pretend it was the only wrong committed throughout all of this or some great harassment of the womynz! To my knowledge even though this isn't a justification of doing such action, it wasn't even a threat made to her, but a stupid action to find out who the person really was, and surprise surprise it was another E-sports player that people were contesting it was.
My wife tried to kill herself today. She has had suicidal thoughts before, but this is the first time I haven't been able to pull her back from them. Thankfully, I stay home for my son, so I was able to stop her before she hurt herself. She will be in a mental care ward for 3-5 days getting help.
As for the report on the Overwatch player, I'm sorry I didn't look into it more deeply than the story. WHat did make me worry was the attitude put on female players mentioned by the other female player interviewed, "Oh, no! There's a girl on our team! We're gonna lose!" and immediately quitting the team, causing the team to forfeit, but baming her for the loss.
@ThacoBell I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I know from personal experience mental illness can be hard. Knowing the grief stepping out of it all hurts your family, friends and colleagues so much keeps me alive. There's of course nothing I can say that can help your wife recover, but still, I hope she will. Recovery in mental illness usually is not the illness disappearing, it's something you got to live with, but recovery is finding some meaning and a way of coping with life, despite the illness. I hope she'll recover in that sense. She's got a very loving husband, that's for sure. I hope that love will prove to be a lifeline for her.
Do you have confidence in the mental healthcare she's got? And how's the contact with experiential experts?
@ThacoBell I am deeply sorry about your wife and I too hope she will recover. I wish both you and her the best.
Regarding that article on Overwatch player, I was suspecting something was up and due to that I waited with judgment, keeping in mind that gaming journalism these day is trash-tier in terms of quality and reliability. And what do you know... My favourite part was claiming that it all was social experiment. Seriously, claims like that can be easy destroyed by asking some basic question of methodology of conducting both experiments in general and this particular one.
@ThacoBell: I can't imagine what your family is going through now. I can't imagine the shock and the fear you must be feeling. There's nothing more frightening than the prospect of losing someone you love.
It's good that she's getting help, though these things are never easy or quick to resolve. Hard days are ahead. Stay strong.
Don't let people pill-shame your wife, if she needs medication to help her. People will tell you (and her) that she doesn't need pills to overcome mental illness. But none of them know what your wife is going through, and unless they are her doctor, they just don't know. I've seen people convinced not to take pills by others, telling them they could do it without the pills, and the person who needed the pills ended up killing themselves because they were convinced there was something wrong with them when they couldn't do it on their own.
I take Cymbalta myself to stabilize my emotions (the lowest dose you can take) And I can feel the difference it makes for me. It may sound alarmist, but there are people out there who are convinced no one needs to take any sort of drug. Do not listen to them, and don't let your wife listen to them. Please.
Mental illness is just a disease like any other there is no reason to be ashamed of having one. My best wishes to your wife @ThacoBell I hope she'll be better soon.

There are *beep* in the world, and on the internet. This isn't a woman issue, any man who's played online ( I use to play smite religiously since it first went into closed beta and yes that pun was attended. I also use to play lol for years only stopping a good year or two ago because of a mixture of boredom and dying laptop) have had to deal with and see others deal with it.
You get over it and move on, people are arseholes. The internet is like life, 10% of it is what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it.
Which is getting worse seeing how people now want to control what others can and can't say and even going as far as taking authoritarian levels of action.

Thank you for all the well wishes. You guys all help keep me strong.
@Son_of_Imoen Yeah, its something she has been struggling with for years. Its definitely a process and not "whoop you're cured, go forth and depress no more." We actually drove a little bit out of our way because we have more faith in a hospital a couple towns over than the local one.
@LadyRhian Oh yeah, we have a bunch of experience with "pill shaming". I've gone to war with enough people in our life over what she goes through, what that means on a medical and biological level, and the consequences for trying to just "push through it". I swear that phrase has been ruined forever for us. The people who are left in our life are supportive though.
@ThacoBell I know it is tough to take with what your wife just attempted. You are the rock for your family most definitely. I went through that with my girlfriends dad 2 years ago and we did not get to him in time to talk him out of it. So often there is not really much or any warning though. So many unanswered questions and guilt from that still left. I'm glad you got to her in time and don't have to go through that as well. I'm glad that professionals can watch over her for at least a few days and maybe help her though this time. Hopefully the two of you can find a way to cope with this a little better. And whatever ya do, don't start thinking it's your fault, or think that if only you had... cause it ain't.
So, i finally got in contact with the financial company that handles my student loans and i now know how much I have to pay back, on top of the nearly 4k i already have to pay the ER...
In other news, I've started looking into the concept of faking ones own death, its quite an interesting thing.
@DragonKing You may already have but just in case, did you talk to em bout reducing the amount you have to pay every month yet? On real hardship you can get it reduced to nothing or close to it I think. I know I have anyway. You can also reduce it even if you qualify for FNS benefits every month. It's an option at least.
I'm so sorry to hear that, @ThacoBell . I hope she feels better.
As for me - my girlfriend and I had to have a long discussion about putting our dog down tonight. The dog is 16 years old, and has terrible arthritis. It's gotten so bad that she basically cannot walk anymore.
Unfortunately - aside from that, she's in reasonable health (for a 16 year old dog, anyways). Which makes it sort of even worse. I wouldnt be surprised if she lived for another 6 months to a year, but if she cannot walk... what kind of quality of life does she have?
(Complicating matters, the dog is my gf's first ever pet. She's had the dog for literally more than half her life, and has taken care of her since she was like 4 months old).

You have a big heart to feel sorry for a lady you didn't know who additionally represented such a harmful view and paid the price for it.
In short, +5 to respect for you, LadyRhian
