I have recently arrived from the Ten Towns of Icewind Dale. It was a long trek, but I wanted to get the most value I could from the items I collected up north. Athkatla is known as the richest city in all of Faerûn, so I knew there would be adventurers about with the amount of coin I was looking for.
Sometimes it's worth to not merge threads because when you do so the OP of the thread that is being added loses all their reactions when their OP becomes just a general comment in the thread. @the_spyder got a lot of reactions in that thread, so...
I don't really know where my pseudonym comes from : I made it up in an instant as I was creating a free account on world of warcraft when I was 12, some 9 years ago. I liked the game and kept playing it for about four years, using this pseudonym for nothing but that (not visible in-game) account name... And grew attached to it. So much so that I then couldn't imagine ever changing it.
As for what does it mean, that's the thing : I have no idea (so nothing I guess). It's pronounced the same way as Schnappi (no ich-laut because that sound doesn't exist in my country =o ), and as such I've often been likened to the kleine krokodil, which never bothered me - I often find myself whistling that opening song - but that isn't where it comes from.
@sparkleav , Well, now, that's actually very interesting to me, because I was reading your name as "spark leaf", figuring you couldn't get that name exactly and settled for "spark leaves" without the "s".
Now I know to pronounce it and think it as "Sparkle A.V."
When I first registered for this forum, I had no idea that it would become my home on the internet, and I entered my screen name as "belgarathmth" with no capitals. As I made a home here and made a lot of friends, I became aware that few people were understanding what the name was without capital letters in it.
So, I sent a message to customer service, and Dee kindly changed the name for me to be "BelgarathMTH", making it clearer to readers that the name was "Belgarath" plus the initials "MTH". Thus, my name should be read as just "Belgarath", or "Belgarath em-tee-aytch", or recently, one reader started addressing me as just "MTH".
Also, sometimes people address me as "Bel" for a nickname. I answer to all of them.
It is a reference to Mme de Staël - great French literary mind of enlightenment, and precocious visionary of Franco-German friendship that ultimately is in heart of EU. "De l'Allemagne."
Napoleon had her exiled to Switzerland. I admire a woman deemed so intellectually dangerous in times when formal power was very inequitable indeed.
Back in 1990 I had a character named Strega in Champions (well, her superhero name), who was a powerful sorceress in her own right and did the superhero thing.
I tried to make Strega in City of Heroes, but couldn't use the name Strega, so I used the name Bella Strega. Unlike her Champions incarnation, in CoH she was a dark/dark defender as that seemed to be the most interesting choice to me at the time.
Several years later, Going Rogue comes out, which lets you start characters in an alternate universe. So I made an alternate universe version of Bella Strega and named her Belle Sorciere. Belle Sorciere was a dark/dark controller (at least that iteration of her was but the other iterations were basically placeholders to camp the name).
I collected rocks when I was a child, and actually ended up with a collection of gems about 4 5-gallon pails large that were 90% Quartz(plus bigger ones and fossils/artifacts on the side). So I used Rock_Hound everywhere. Eventually I ran into a site where Rock_Hound was in use, and decided to start using one of the main villains from WotC: Moridin/Ishamael. Eventually after about a year I began to find those names in use on almost every site and so switched over to Gem Hound. I've been using Gem Hound now for about 4 to 5 years only having found one site with a Gem Hound already registered.
I came up with "Artona" as great city in story I was writing. I planned it to be equivalent of Kingdom of Jerusalem. I abandoned it, but liked the name.

@JuliusBorisov , I've known you for so long as @bengoshi, the change is going to be a little hard to get used to.
Could you please share about what your new name means and how it was chosen?
Also, everybody seems to know something I don't know. Did you get hired by Beamdog in some capacity? Or is that supposed to be confidential and not talked about? Are you under NDA at this time?
It sounds like congratulations may be in order, but there's no announcement of anything that I can find.

You all have known me as @bengoshi for several years. One fine day a man joined this forum and started to comment here and there. After some time this man became a moderator. A change in status brought additional responsibility but in the same time this man stayed true to his heart - he still was the same guy to participate here and there and share his genuine opinions.
This week something wonderful happened. I have got a chance to help the company I respect and like. This new opportunity in the same time brings even more responsibility. I think one part of it is being even more sincere towards my favourite games, people who develop them, and other fans, many of whom are you, my forum friends. The man who have always been behind the name @bengoshi is me, Julius Borisov. I've thought it would be an honour to help Beamdog with everything I could bring, including my own identity. I look at very seriously, this is why I asked for a forum change of the name, so that anyone, anywhere, could indentify me as the same person.
All other details are confidential, but I'm so excited about the times ahead.
Honestly, I thought that @bengoshi and @JuliusBorisov were two seperated people. Congrats on your promotion!
Addition to story behind my name, because I am *that* vain: I came up with Artona, because I needed battle cry that would rival "Hieresolyma est perdita!". I think "For Artona!" isn't that cool, but would work, I guess.
Avenger started as a MUD character name, about 25 years ago. Then it was my IE modder's name. TeamBG was added because i got far too many questions about @AlexT 's Rogue Rebalancing mod.

Here is a prior thread bengoshi didn't merge in, dates probably didn't work well for thread merging.

2112 - Rush is my favorite band, I have seen them in concert 17 or 18 times. Sometimes through a haze so hard to be exactly sure.
And grew attached to it. So much so that I then couldn't imagine ever changing it.
