I don't know about you, but I never drink potions that aren't the standard color. They're always cursed somehow, and rarely do what they're supposed to.
I used to drink them all to test the effects. My first character even ate the flowers Delainy gave him. She must have wondered what kind of ungrateful weirdo she was flirting with. And regretted the whole flirting thing.
On topic: did you know that the flowers Delayiny/Durlyle gives you are deadly nightshades? Did you know that deadly nightshade is very, very toxic? Charname knows.
I believe that people have been killed through eating 1/4 of a deadly nightshade berry. It is not all bad as it is used in medicine. Women used to use it as a cosmetic as it dilated the eyes thus making women more attractive to the male of the species which is why it is called belladonna. (Beautiful lady in Italian) The berry is not the most poisonous part of the plant, but because of its sweetness, is the most likely part to be eaten.
Edit: Picture is small but it says "The shee often travel in the lands of mortals, hoping to hear stories and songs to bring back to their people. More than any other Arak, shee are fond of humans and indeed often take mortal lovers. Indeed, on rare occasions they have even married humans. When the shee meet a particularly enthralling storyteller. they may bring him or her back to the Shadow Rift and transform him or her into a changeling."
Did you know that if you take De' Tranion's Baalor Ale from BG1EE into Dragonspear that you can't use it for the quest in Dragonspear. I took it in deliberately to use for that quest and it doesn't work. You have to get the ale from Dragonspear. Why? The coding is the same. It must be event triggered.

... because Kava in SoD doesn't like how De' Tranion's Baalor Ale tastes and wants a "frosty mug of ale."
Speaking seriously, it's because the ale is different.
There are two different items in BG2 that reference a warrior named Rigar Trueblood. Supposedly he trapped a demon inside his sword Harbinger, and when he was about to die he infused his essence into the Pale Green Ioun Stone.
Shandalar has an unused dialog file. It makes him say something before turning hostile if the party has really low reputation.
What he says is chosen at random from the following quotes:
"Halt! As in stop and cease your actions! You will harm no more! I am Shandalar, and this town is in my protections! You will face justice here, at my hand!"
"Vile fiends of nether intent! Here you face the wrath of this town's protector! I am Shandalar and... do I know you? NO! I would never associate with such... you look so familiar. NO, my familiar is smaller and has sharper teeth! Your masquerade does not fool me! Face justice!"
"You there! Stand your ground and face judgment! I am Shandalar, and I must protect this village when no other can! Such as you are not welcome, please and thank you! Keep your elbows off my table!"
"Hold, travelers! This place will not tolerate your evil, your misbehavior, or your competition! Did I say that? I must have, for I am Shandalar, and I protect this place when no other can. Or wants to! To arms and legs akimbo!"
The file also makes him say something else if he reduces one of your characters below 25% health (this doesn't happen in-game because he doesn't use the file)
What he says is chosen at random from the following quotes:
"While I have enjoyed putting your evil self firmly in your evil place, I fear I must leave your carcass only half-judged! I am certain I left the fireplace fully stoked and must return later! I'll not burn my roast for the likes of you!"
"You will all pay for your... wait! There is something entirely shiny at the tip of that tree! I will return to do away with you later! Best you repent in the meantime!"
"I would stay to finish you off, but I have rather more important things to attend to! I've bigger fishmen to fry than you lot!"
"Wait wait WAIT! I've something in my eye. Hold on... hold on... blasted eyelashes! Knew I shouldn't have regrown them! I'll be back to finish you later, mark my words!"
Modders may know that the "Dispel/Resistance" field in Near Infinity has two identical values: 0 and 2 both make an effect undispellable and capable of bypassing magic resistance.
But there is one difference between them: the Dispel Magic opcode apparently does not work if it is set to "No dispel/bypass resistance (0)." It will, however, work if it is set to "Not dispel/bypass resistance (2)."
The Cast Spell on Condition opcode can sometimes prevent a spell from working. Modders can get around this by isolating the effect in a separate spell, activated by using the Cast Spell opcode in the original spell.
This spell might not work...
Spell 1: Effect 1: +2 AC Effect 2: Casts Fire Shield when hit
Assume (since you are the one healing him) that you escort him out and then come right back in.
Might aswell ~assume~ he has a wardstone of his own then.
Why? If he had his own wardstone, he would have left a long time ago. A charname willing to devote resources to cure him, would certainly be willing to walk a yards to lead him out as well.
Did you know, that if you got hit by Melf's Acid Arrow, you can escape the secondary damages after the first round by drinking a Potion of Magic Blocking, or casting a Scroll of Protection from Magic? Which is even more interesting, that you cannot resist the secondary damages by acid resistance acquired after the first damage (for example via protection from acid spell), acid resistance is only works if you got it before you get hit by Melf's Acid Arrow.
Did you know that if you speak to Riggilo after telling Kirinhale that you have given him the hair, he will say that he cannot exit the tower and will attack you. However, if you flee he will follow you outside and will still be hostile. ??? Why? You have shown him the way out.
Similarly, in Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster, if you flee from a water kin elemental and go to another area, the elemental can leave its pool and follow you to that area.
As I'm sure most people know (and has already come up in this thread), depending on your character's gender, on Balduran's Isle, you can meet either Delainy (for men) or Durlyle (for women). However, what you may not know is that they react to the exact same global variable; the only reason that you see the person you see is because of a script in the area, spawning them in based on your gender.
This means you can go through, say, Durlyle's quest, if you're playing a female, up to the point where the variable sets for him to help you; after this, if you put on the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity (or change gender some other way), when set to appear, Delainy will spawn instead and react as if you've done her quest.
You can rig a custom spell to give extra bonuses to certain character classes using the Cast Spell, Protection from Spell, and Use EFF File opcodes. For instance, if you want to create an armor-boosting spell that works especially well on Kensais and Monks, you can set up the spell like this:
Spell 2: Use EFF File 2B on Monks Use EFF File 2B on Kensais
Effect 2B.eff: Protection from Spell: immunity to spell 3
Spell 3: -1 AC
This way, the spell applies +2 AC, then penalizes AC by 1. Most characters will just get +1 AC. But Monks and Kensais are unaffected by the AC penalty, gaining the full +2 AC.
You can also use the Protection from Spell opcode in other sources. Put it in a CLAB file and your custom kits can get extra bonuses from certain spells. You can even tweak it so that the kit only gets that bonus at a certain level. Or you could put it on an item, so that only characters wearing that item would get the bonus.
I used this method in my Alchemist kit so that the Alchemist gets extra bonuses from its own potions. The base healing potion normally heals 2d6 HP, but the Alchemist also gets 2d6+1d3 HP.
@CrevsDaak: True. I think I was thinking of the EE opcode 318, which grants selective immunity to spells, but which I couldn't figure out how to rig to include/exclude a kit (only classes and other things). Opcode 177 can indeed target kits easily.
Opcodes 146 (cast spell), 177 (use EFF file), 206 (protection from spell), and 318 (protection from spell based on target type) can do lots of crazy stuff that individual opcodes cannot.
Did you know some of those hidden treasures in Baldur's Gate 1 have hints leading you to them?
If you talk with the "suicidal" man in the area east of Candlekeep, and you tell him that life is worth living, he tells you this:
You're right, of course. What a fool I was to think this would solve anything... you see, I lost the diamond out of the setting of my favorite ring while walking on the path in this lovely pastoral area sometime past, and was unable to find it no matter how carefully I retraced my steps; it is probably adorning some undeserving bird's nest or rogue's purse, and this has put a damper on my will to live, though I do have other rings.
In the area with Zal, the Fastest Dart Thrower in the West, there is a secret spot with a Cloudkill scroll (and some other scroll, maybe Chromatic Orb or Color Spray or some other rubbish not worth remembering); when being told about Zal's skills, you hear this:
Now, Zal's real angry, 'cause it's been slim pickin's today with only one lost mage's coupla useless scrolls squirreled away to show fer our time.
Now, that doesn't give you a big hint on where exactly the scrolls might be, but they'd have to be nearby.
Also, a Flaming Fist mercenary is looking for a man named Samuel because he:
...stole a magical ring and a couple of expensive gems from our barracks and then deserted.
And this is on the map with the Ring of Fire Resistance and the Star Sapphire (and maybe some other gems, can't really remember) hidden in the cliff face.
So, if you're anything like me, and don't like "stumbling" upon bonuses that you meta-gamingly know are there, you don't have to feel bad about these.
I don't know if there are hints for the others (I really doubt there are hints for the Ring of Wizardry or the Ankheg Plate, though).
Comments
Woody nightshade is nowhere near as dangerous.
Earlier I talked about how The Warchant of the Sith might be an Elven Warsong since Sith (pronounced Shee) is a reference to real world mythology Fey.
Well. I found this.

There's definitely an oversight albeit a trivial one

Same goes for Garren Windspear's kid, too.
Spell 1:
+2 AC
Cast Spell 2 instantly
Cast Spell 3 instantly

Use EFF File 2B on Kensais

I mean... It's way easier and doesn't clutter.
