Invisibility 10' Radius affects everything within its radius, friendly or not. If you have a penchant for casting it a lot and suddenly you can't find an NPC where he or she is supposed to be, make sure you cast "True Sight" before filing a bug report.
Doesn't True Sight only reveal characters who are hostile? Non-hostile "white circle" characters wouldn't be revealed by it, I think.
Have you thought about how horrible it would be to be the target of Insect Plague? It's one thing to be covered by insects; it's another thing to be covered by insects that are trying to kill you. And it lasts for 6 rounds! 6 rounds might not be much in real life time, but real life time goes 12 times slower than in-game time (so that, for example, an hour in-game is 5 turns). In in-game time the spell would last for 7 minutes and 12 seconds!
Hell, imagine what it would be like to be the target of a Fireball, and having your face get roasted. Or Dire Charm, and wake up to find out you just killed one of your best friends.
It's kind of interesting to look at characters like Aerie and Nalia and add to their personalities that they have no problem throwing acid in people's face and watch their skull and brain melt into a soggy soup. Or repeatedly kill people by draining the liquid out of their screaming bodies. And Aerie thinks I'm the one who needs to control my bloodthirst.

Violence is always ugly, I suppose . Let's not forget that minsc cuts people in half with his 2handed sword. That's why D&D has so many monsters, so you can hack and slack without feeling much guilt .

Apparently, according to the thread with paladins in sharkville it is still an issue for some paladins.

You can also headcanon what most movies do (assassin's creed comes to mind) : deaths are usually clean and quick . An arrow on an enemy guard makes him fall and die, and sword hits go straight to the heart, no arms or heads being chopped off.

Mmm, I did enjoy the Rolemaster system of critical hits, even though combat could often go on WAY to long. Agreed, imagination is quicker.
Did you know that when Sarevok changes alignment, some of his voice lines change to become less sinister:
Battle Cry 1: "Feel my unholy wrath!" -> "We children of Bhaal cannot be stopped!" Battle Cry 3: "(evil laugh)" -> "Ha! This arena I know well!" Death: "No! I... I refuse!" -> "Nuargh..." City: "Ha! These are all pawns. Pawns collected for the use of whoever knows how to place them on the board." -> "I have had enough of... people. They try my patience." Night: "*chuckle* Darkness is friend to all with evil intent." -> "Beware... darkness is murder's most favored companion."
I find these changes really interesting because it can be inferred that as Chaotic Good, Sarevok is no longer afraid to die and despite losing his divinity he refers to himself as a child of Bhaal again - because he's acknowledging the PC as his sibling by blood rather than by essence. It's impressive how much of a difference a few select soundset changes makes.
@Artemius_I Interesting. I wonder if Viccy changes as well?
Viconia does not. Party members that undergo a partial soundset change are: Sarevok (CG), Nalia (ToB), Edwin(a), Anomen (CN), Aerie (ToB - post-Saradush) and Clara (literally just her death sound)
@Artemius_I I noticed that a while ago, although to my annoyance the conversation path that's supposed to lead to his heel turn has never been reliable for me. I'll say that it's a testament to my main motivation for playing TOB being the wrapup to my companion's stories, since I find the main plot hackneyed and sloppily written. Thank god things became more character-driven than ever.
The comments about magic damage above are why I have a serious moral problem with arcane magic if I think about it too much. Sometimes I can get into the mindset of "It's just a video game", but when I want to do heavy roleplaying, imagining magic damage in a realistic manner usually bothers me. So, I very often have characters like Keldorn, Anomen, Mazzy, and Valygar in my party, and play a cleric or paladin myself. Mages in my party are often restricted to defensive and debuffing spells only. I basically wind up following Yoda's teachings on use of the Force. Maybe I should have posted this in "unpopular opinions".
Did you know that there is a theory saying that the Lady of Pain is actually not a single entity. But seven giant squirrels standing on each others shoulders, equipped with a single ring of levitation , and all wearing a huge costume together? It's true!

Yeah, I've heard that one before. Didn't know it was a serious theory and not just a joke.

Wasn't the Nameless One supposed to be the Lady of Pain's former lover or something?
These D&D folks also live in a world where death is not the end, where gods/multiple planes of existence/multiple realities DO exist, and just about any disease/affliction/condition can be cured with the proper spell, so I'd say their perception of what counts as "horrible" is very skewed compared to ours.
"Oh... so I died. OK, I hope my murderer spends the rest of his days languishing in the Nine Hells but meanwhile I have a date with a half-archon from Mount Celestia."

Very true. There's this exhibition in the Swedish history museum here in Stockholm showing the remains of people killed in the battle of Visby. I like this video where Lindybeige visited it. It's like the people in the comments (who usually love to talk about how to best kill someone on a medieval battlefield) suddenly realized just how horrifying this stuff actually is. I still think it's a better way to go than some of the magic deaths though.
